Hey Fellas, I'm just wondering if any of you ever worked with the Pac Bay line of Ti frame guides. I know they are fitted with Zirconia rings which I'm sure is very good material. Looking forward to your input.

I just read the article from the library, is this the best way to lay out the guides for a rapid reduction system on a spinning rod, freshwater shaky head or drop shot rod. I want to learn the best practices for my rod building. Thank you.and forgive me if this question has been beat to death, I am brand new at this with only one rod under my belt and I just used the spacing guide from Fuji and t

Hi, I am new here and would like to first say THANKS for all the info I have read and used from reading this forum in the past. Now...I am just starting to build on a North Forks 7' 2 piece light rod IM series. My understanding is these are designed by Gary Loomis. The blank was a great price. I don't really like their recommendation for guide sizes. Does any body out there have the specs on guid

I looked at another rod with a Minima tip top and saw the same thing, many grooves. Two other rods that I built with Mimima guides have other good tip tops that aren't grooved. Everyone was right.

Hi All: What is your experience or opinion on using torzite to replace snake guides on a fly rod? Will casting distance be significantly improved? I suspect hey will certainly hold up better when playing large running fish in the salt. Thanks in advance! --Rich

Three years ago I built a light spinning rod with Mimima guides and tip top and use it frequently. The other day my line felt rough so I looked at the guides and the tip top was severely grooved in several places. The rod was only used with 6 lb mono not braid. The other guides were OK. I replaced it with another style.

At a fishing expo I saw rodbuilders using double-foot Minima guides on musky rods and they say it works really well. So I'm planning a MHF musky rod using #6 double-foot minimas as runners. Can someone suggest what size to use for the stripper to get the proper height to keep the line off the foregrip? Based on a chart in the catalog, there is a big difference between #16 and #20 height so I'm

I purchased some really beautiful PacBay Minima Guides in TiBronze. However, I need the following and looking for a source. And yes, I started down the distributor path on the PacBay website but striking out on the initial searches: GS16SKIC-E, GS17SKIC, GS18SKIC-E Graphite Skeleton w/Cushioned Hoods AJ454-E Single Foot Hook Keepers ACK236-E through ACK512-E Winding Checks A

Hi all, I have a question. Yesterday I went steelhead fishing. I was using a float + jig, with 10 pound braided main line. The rod was built from an 11 foot 6 weight switch rod blank. The guides are Pac Bay Minima match frames with Pac Bay single foot fly guides as the running guides (I can't remember the size). While fishing I was getting quite a few tangles near the top ten inches or so o

So I'm doing an 8 wt. for a friend for a bonefish trip. Thinking of using ceramic running guides - anyone build one like this? If so would you go with 6's or 7's for runners? I have both. Thanks!

Hello, I’m looking for suggestions on what guides to use for a drop shot spinning rod I’m going to be building later this month. I decided to use a NFC DS6107-1 rod blank (due to them being on sale), this is a mag light extra-fast blank that weighs in at 1.5oz. I was looking into using the CBR LZR guides but couldn’t find much of any info about quality. I usually us Fuji (for everything) or Mi

Hello everyone, i am new to the site and rod building. I am looking to build a smaller float rod for some smaller PA trout streams. Currently i have been using a 8 foot crappie rod with my pin. I love the length, but the rod just dont have enough power for bigger trout. I was thinking about using an 8 foot 4 wt rod blank and putting spinning guides on it. Could anyone suggest any blanks and guide

I have a question regarding Citri Strip. I'm not certain if everyone knows this yet, but I received a newsletter e mail from Batson Enterprises today that says the production of the new Testament series of rod blanks by Rainshow, has been halted. In part it read "We were unable to produce these USA made blanks to our exacting standards on a large scale," said CEO Bill Batson. A

I am reworking a spinning rod. I ended up ordering the pac bay match guides for the reduction train. Before I ordered them I had been following a post comparing the Fuji KLH 16H-8H-5.5M to 20H-10H-5.5M. Because I was going to use Pac Bay match guides I compared heights of the Fuji guides to the Pac Bay match. The PBm 20---47, KLH16--42.3; PBm 10--27, KLH8--26.8; PBm 5--14.6, KLH5.5M--14.6. I am

I am going to build a 13' 4~8lb float rod (CTS Affinity Float blank) for spinning reel use, not centerpin. I am looking for good gold colour single foot guides (either gold frame or ring). What options are available ? I checked Fuji did some in the past but seems they do not make gold colour for their newer K guides. ???? Furthermore, where could I find guide spacing and sizing for 13' bla

Don't. I had a bunch of Minima guides and bought some SSR guides to build a new rod. I learned the hard way they aren't the same. The feet on the SSRs are longer and when wrapped don't look good with the Minimas. Ended up cutting the feet on the longer ones to look good.

Okay for all the techies out there, I have had lots of emails in regards to our RS rings so I thought I would make a quick post. The RS rings are silicon nitride. The rings are among the lightest, thinnest, strongest and smoothest made. Lots of you guys love the steel ring Minima guides, very light and slim. Here is a comparison on just ring weights, no frame. SeaGuide offers the RS ring

I recently purchased some SSR guides for a few spinning rods, but have yet to build and fish them. They look nicely made, and nice prep on the foot. I'm using the black frame, silver ring version, and would like to find a tip to run that has a smoother frame profile for less line tangle. Has anyone fished these much? Especially on spinning rods. And any thoughts appreciated.

Have a couple of general questions on types you would suggest. I’m building 2. One for walleye and one for pannies. I’ve seen some use regular guides but otherzs prefer metal. Could you give me some guidance on preferences and sizes you like to use? Thanks for your help! Chuck

Hey guys, I have been asked about building an ice rod. I have not built one yet and wanted to get some input. The questions I have are. 1. Who handles ice rod blanks? I did get on Mud Hole and see they have HMX and CRB. Any others out there? 2. What about guides. I am currently using Pac Bay guides on all of the rods I have built so far. Anyone know what guides they have that would work fo

I will put an inline reel on it so a little taller spinning guide first I'm thinking and then regular guides. Gentlemen, what would be the maximum mono/braided line weight and lure weight you would consider building a steelhead/salmon/light surf spinning rod using PacBay Model M with ceramic insert, Model M Minima, Model FX with ceramic insert and Model F Minima? I have Rainshadow RX7 9' blank that I am going to build up using 30-40lb braided mainline and 1.5oz lure weight. Thx Fon

I am hoping to receive guidance in selecting guides for a 3-5 wt fly rod. The majority of my builds are UL spinning trout rods and light-to-medium salt casting rods along with the occasional stand-up tuna rod. While I have built a number of fly trout rods, they are admittedly in the minority. Those who know me from this site are aware of my respect for the traditional and passion for the vintage
