I’m new to building rods, i live in the northeast. So stripper fishing is my main go-to when I’m out. I’d like to make a rod that is good for fishing jetty’s and also bridges. If anyone could point me into the right direction of a blank that could be used for both I would appreciate it.

In receiving my new Mudhole catalog I noticed there were no PacBay guides. I've been using their Minima guides for a few years and wondered whether the CRB SSR guides are the same thing. Did Mudhole merge with PacBay or?

I have read a bit about guys finishing the kr guide train with minimas. on the 16h - 8h - 5.5m - 5kt guide train are the kts replaced if I wanted to replace the kt's with minima to reduce weight and cost am I correct in thinking I want the F frame minimas since they are the same height as the kts?

Thats fights you every darn step of the way. This last one I built has been a pain from the word go. Took forever to get certain components. Then layout was a pain. Never got things quite right. Everything seemed to be a compromise. Wrapping was a nightmare. Broken thread tieoff loops breaking. Finishing was just downright ugly. Used a finish I have used in the past. This batch behaved totally di

Novice builder here looking to build a budget musky rod for myself, thinking of the Pac Bay Arctos Musky AMC997-2 blank. Anyone have any experience with this blank or Pac Bay blanks in general? The weight seems really light for something that is supposed to throw up to 8 oz lures. Also thinking of trying Pac Bay minima guides for this build as the prices look great, but I haven't found a lot

Hello all. Has anyone here built on this blank? I typically build 7ft St Croix 5sml for jig fishing walleye but always looking for the next great thing lol. Curious about their lure weight rating (1/16-1/2oz) this seems like a big spread. Any other power comparisons out there between the St Croix 5S and the Phenix 713ml? Thanks in advance

Gentlemen, I am going to build an ultra light backpacking rod for a co-worker. It's going to be a 4 piece 5'6" rodgeeks and I intend to use Pacbay Minima titanium M guides. Other ultralights I've built used 16-8-5 reduction guides. However for this rod I want it as low profile as possible. It will utilize a 500 series spinning reel 4 or 6lb mono. What minima match reduction guide sizes

Anyone familiar with these rods and the guide train utilizing recoils and sic guides? Wondering the guide train size throughout and how you guys feel about recoils. There was a point many complained about recoils grooving not sure if this hybrid guide train fixes this issue or the brand itself has changed. Thanks

Could you please share your go-to products and suppliers of 2019? I have been getting more serious about rod building these last few years, and feel like I have been burned a few times, by suppliers I thought were reputable and products that disappoint. Some brands, like fuji, I have come to blindly trust, liking all their products (until I tried their graphite arbors), other brands I really w

Building a rod for a buddy and he is set on Recoil guides but has also been doing his research on rod building and wants me to use the KR Concept. Just getting expert advice in making sure that the KR Concept will still work without using the Fuji K-series guides.

I have of late been using casting guides and tip tops (ceramic insert) on fly rods. I really like the look and they seem to work well. I'd like to know if other builders and fishermen find this a satisfactory practice? Gary Jones. ([email protected])

I did some comparing - and a size 16 M style, size 20Y style, and size 25 SV style guide are all really close in height. Anyone run size 16 M style for a stripper guide on ML and M power freshwater spinning set ups? 8# Mono would be the coarsest line used most of the time.

Hello I will be building a rod for a friend who likes the look of the American tackle ring lock a frame guides my question is I have mostly used kL-h guides on spinning rods with great results with the gps system and these look reasonably similar but I wonder would I use the the same reduction train and sizes for them. Still pretty new to rod building have built 10 rods so far with a lot to lear

Recently I received a request to build a 12 ft. 2.75/3.50 lb carp rod. After looking on all the sites I know of I came up empty with the exception of guides and blanks in the UK. Does anyone know a source for these any closer. ON line I see Daiwa and Okuma and a couple of others make them complete so there has to be some supplier of this rod blank. Any help would be appreciated. Tom

Anyone ever use a fly rod tip top on a spinning setup? I’m rebuilding a 7’6 spinner and planning on using the pac bay minima m models to create a concept layout and also use pac bay fly rod guides for runners. I wanted to possibly use a fly rod tip if this will also decrease weight and to match with the color I chose for the guides. The pac bay minima tip tops I’m seeing only come in ring size 4

I am planning a build for a light Walleye jigging rod. Spinning. Vertical jigging in Canadian lakes with no current 6' to 25'. Jig size range 1/8 - 3/8 oz. I am planning on using a St Croix SCV 5S63MLXF or 5S63MXF. This rod will be used for 99% vertical jigging virtually no casting. I need help picking out the guide types. Is there any reason to use something like NGC or KR concept syste

I am very new to rod building and can't quite get an answer for making the most sensitive rod possible. I have a 6"3" St. Croix SCV Medium X Fast blank that I will be building this rod with and this biggest question I have when it comes to building this rod is the guides. I am pretty sure I will be using Recoil guides but not sure how many. Everything chart I have found suggests between

I'm looking for a new/better blank(s) to build a Lake Trout ice rod on. The rod will be used to jig 1/4-3/4 oz baits and catch lakers 5-15 lbs on average with a real chance at 20+ lb fish as well. It will never be used inside a fish house so the finished length will be 5'-6' long. I definitely want a moderate action to keep the fish pinned so that's led me to fiberglass crankbait blanks. I'm

Here is where I am at 9ft light mod fast 2-6 lb 1/8 to 3/8 rated blank. Using Pac Bay Minima match with minima f runners. My figuring gets me a 20 match 10 match 4w or 5 choker and runners. I am concerned that going from the 10 to the 4 is too drastic. I have not tried the 5 as I don't have them and can not find any at the moment. Is this too much reduction in one step? Next concern is spacing of

for a Klondike bar? Sorry .... I know why that popped into my head. I just don't know why I decided to type it out. Anyhow .... I ordered a blank not all that long ago, and when it got to my house it was damaged. Damaged as in, broken almost perfectly in half. I've since filed and had a claim with USPS settled, and now that I don't have to save the blank in case USPS wanted to look at it, I c

I'm looking at building one of these new Get Bit 12' Speckled Perch-Crappie Blanks into a rear reel seat rod, but I've got questions lol. The blank is 0.667" at the butt so I'm going to use a size 18 spinning seat. I believe I want to put a full wells grip in front of that. I will put either a small spinning reel or a B'n'M Buck’s Best Ultra Lite Crappie Reel 2, either way I'll use 10

I'm going to line out the scenario, and I'm looking for recommendations around a fly outfit based around it. I was advised to use #8 running guides for a 9'6" steelhead spinning rod for fishing Erie and the Salmon river during colder months to prevent icing on the guides. Is it possible to use the Fugi KR Concept for this build or should I consider something else like the cone-of-flight setup? Thanks Ron B

Hey guys my little guy 3yrs old wants his own fishing rod, but doesn’t want one of the cheap ones u seen at the stroes, can’t blame him. He will be approaching 4 next summer and figure he uses this a

Wanted to poll all the knowledgeable folks that contribute to this forum to get ideas on components for two new builds. I ran across the NFC sale and couldn’t resist grabbing a few blanks at the discounted prices. I purchased an MB 706 HM and one of the new MB 736 X-Ray rods. Both willl be used for light t-rigs and general miscellaneous bottom contact baits. I am still fairly new to building ro
