chevron wrap with split grip

If you wanted to wrap chevrons between a split rear grip, what is the order of work items? What do you do first, etc. I've seen photos under ThreadArt but cannot figure out what comes first.

Mark off where the grips will go and do the wrap before the grips are installed

Have you ever done thread work before? there are a few books that you can purchase from our sponsors on the left of the page...they will teach you layout and everything need to do chevrons, diamonds and MANY more...first layout the centers...then the layout threads..then wrap..as simple as that.

Would you apply any epoxy before the grips are installed?

I would put a light coat of finish to protect while installing the grips. Install the rear half of the grip from the back

Unlike Mike I would build the handle then do the chevron(s) - much less chance of moving threads around or getting epoxy on the threads.

I did my first one a few weeks ago...I did it before installing the grips like Mike suggested...I did two thin coats of finish before installing the grips/rubber checks..No finish afterwards..I really like the look of it this way...I havent done it with grips already installed,so I cant really help there.

I'm with Ken on this one. Treat it like a regular butt wrap. Use a size windcheck that is slightly larger than needed to accommodate the thread after locking the ends of the cheveron. Remember these are all opinions and you should choose what best fits you.

Tight lines,

John Hernandez

For me I install everything on the rod but the guides before I start thread work, then when its finished I apply CP then wrap the guides..this way I can apply finish to everything and when it dries the rod is 100% complete. It seems to me that having to go back and apply a coat of finish then install another component then more finish wastes time that I could be working on another rod.
