So I ordered an American Tackle Matrix reel seat CRSD-16MX-B
[www.mudhole.com] I got the reel seat with the black matrix insert. 1.) Has any one used these? 2.) This reel seat comes un-assembled with the skeleton components, the black matrix carbon insert and a black plastic tube like thing. I'm guessing the black plastic tube (fits perfectly inside the components) is used to hold the reel seat skeleton components and the insert rigid for glueing purposes? Is this correct? thanks, Mike p.s. if more infor or pictures are required for clarification let me know. Re: American Tackle reel seat question

Mike...Does the Carbon Fibre insert have Tenons at each end in order for the front and rear hood to sleeve over??... if so, i dare say the plastic tube would not be required to align or otherwise be required to glue the assembly together. if it is...just take great care that any epoxy does not seep down through and fuse the tube inside the insert and front and rear hoods. Hope this is of some help. Cheers!!!...Wayne Re: American Tackle reel seat question

No the carbon fiber insert does not have Tenons....that is where my confusion is coming from.....The carbon fiber just butts up to the threaded barrel and the front hood.... Re: American Tackle reel seat question

Mike ...if that is the case . i can only see one reason for the inner Plastic tube...it must run the same length as the two hoods and the insert combined..correct???..Therefore it sleeves through all 3 components, and that is what will ultimately bind everything together via Epoxy adhesive. Pictures
in the second picture I did not push the components together on the tube, just to show my thoughts, on how it should go together. [www.rodbuilding.org] [www.rodbuilding.org] Edited 1 time(s). Last edit at 02/11/2011 09:27PM by Mike Winkler. Re: American Tackle reel seat question

Mike,
Wayne is correct the sleve is for mounting the sections together. Make sure to center the components on the tube. Tight lines, John Re: American Tackle reel seat question

Just a thought but try an arbor instead of the tube. Then the matrix over the arbor. Bill - willierods.com Re: American Tackle reel seat question

I started to put it together last night and grabbed an arbor. Lined every thing up, a little bit of rod bond. And now I have a reel seat. For any one else using one of these. With the supplied insert, you will not be able to use a size 16 arbor with out sanding the OD of the arbor. Just use the arbor. Thank you all, Mike Re: American Tackle reel seat question
