Where can I find some triangular shaped hypalon or eva? Looking for colors if possible, if not black would be an option. I don't want to take on the chore of trying to shape it myself if I can get away from it.

That rod has a limited lifetime warranty on it , and when you bought the blank, it should have had the warranty tag included with it.
You might contact Batson direct and talk to them regarding the breakage. Unhide you email, and I will send you my contact person at Batson

Switch rods and see if it is just the operator, many times that is the case.

Josh!!! to start with no professional or at least very few are going to endorse a blank. Most use and are paid for by what ever sponsor they are representing. That is what they get paid for. It is called the power of advertising. You could have a rod that the blank is actually worth less than 50.00 but due to advertising and promotions it suddenly becomes a 200.00 blank built into a 400.00

730. Re: problem with tip
You definitely do not need the tension as you are not trying to secure anything. I sometimes wrap up to the tip other times away from it.
If you look at backlash tools on the sponsor site, you will see that they have a tool for working on the tips. Personally I do not use one, but its all what a person gets used to.

734. Re: replace guide
Maybe you had better get some books , everything you do, you post on the forum to ask how. We're here to help but not do it all for you, a lot of us have had to learn thru our mistakes and trial and error. Sorry to be blunt but thats my feelings.

I think your asking for trouble. There's a lot of difference in stretching to fit and trying to shrink to fit. If your going to clamp it at least build up the blank a little to make up for some of the difference.

Don't overlook the fact that they are also offering a couple of glass crankbait rods in their line up, I really liked the feel and action of them.

I use the 1/8 painters tape and also the mini cable ties, of which I have a gun that lets me tighten them very easily while positioning the guide.

Its more the shape of the outer perimeter of the larger guide that makes it transition to the smaller inner guide that makes this work from what I saw when handeling it at the show.

My only problem with the guide is that Lance would not let me strip it off the rod and brIng it home with me. In all seriousness, I think a great majority fo people are going to be impressed with it, and some won't stray away from tradition. That is what makes the world go round. I actually already have a rod sold with this particular guide, just also happens to be for a client that has a wave

The curiosity has really gotten to me on this. I'll have a little better feeling for this after I talk with them personally at the ICAST show next week.

I just convinced a skeptical customer to let me build him a spiral wrapped split grip 6 1/2' crank bait rod, and he now says he doesn't know why all rods aren't built that way. He says his distance has increased, sensitivity is greater and just loves it. I built my first one over 20 years ago when it was known as a roberts wrap, and fished the @#$%& out of it until we were broken into and it was

I don't think I would be concerned with the wraps, I would probably make sure that it was a gloss finish blank, possibly a stainless or aluminum reel seat. I think my biggest problem would be the grip material, unless you use a heat shrink type of grip, possibly with some sort of cord pattern under it. I then think the rod could be cleaned fairly easy after each use. I am reall curiou to see

I have one and think is is just great. I use it for inletting (recessing) my fly rod reel seats, and also use it on the butt grips if I want to insert anything like a button, coin, or other circular object you might want to use.

I feel that the spineing of a rod was probably more critical when using the old fiberglass blanks. With all the new technology on creating todays blanks. I think it has basically gone by the wayside. I do spine some that show a prominent side, but the majority are not . I feel it is totally up to the builder on what they prefer. Thus said, if you want to, do it, if not, don't.
