What type of masking tape do most people use to temporarily hold their guides in place?
I've seen the 3M on sale at Mudhole and wonder if it's any better than the common household I currently use. I've tried insulation tape as read spmewhere it doesn't leave any residue but wasn't too happy with it., I'm also playing with the idea of using hot melt glue to hold them in place, especially the smaller ones and have played with the elastic band types. Cant say I've ever been pleased with any method, maybe you guys have a secret weapon?? Cheers, Phil. Re: Temporary guide supports

On the rare occasions I use tape, it is the blue painter's tape that removes easily with no residue. Typically, however, I use either surgical tubing or Flexcoat Guide Foot Adhesive. Re: Temporary guide supports

Hi Gary,
How well does the guide foot epoxy hold? I guess you dont need to put much on or it would hold the guide off the blank and cause problems. Regards, Phil. Re: Temporary guide supports

I use the guide foot adhesive and have had no problem. I hold the guide foot up to the alcohol burner just enough to get it a little warm and then touch the glue stick. It doesn`t take very much just watch your fingers. Ohio Rod Builders Canton, Ohio Re: Temporary guide supports

When you do a static test to align the guides the bans will make it easier to move them. Bill - willierods.com Re: Temporary guide supports

Phillip; I use the small rubber bands that are made for Orthodontic braces, they can be picked up at the Orthodontists office Re: Temporary guide supports

Just my $0.02 worth. I bought a couple of feet of most common sizes surgical tubing. With a decent pair of scissors (usually first aid type (Blunt nose) I just cut what I need off. These range from up and down from about 1/8 inch wide, (just eyeball the width of the band). If not tight enough (mind you not tight but only snug is what you are after) then I will double them over and place my guides-white china markers help a lot there for placement (spine or straight side and location of either eye or foot of guide. while wrapping I am also cleaning the china marker off about 3 to 4 guides in front of the currently being wrapped guide. That way always clean and dry guides/blanks. But I will let the better educated tell you the best ways. This works for me and is easy to accomplish.

I have tried everything.
Tape, glue, tubing. But I continue to come back to masking tape. I go to my auto supply store and get rolls of 1/4 inch wide and 1/8 inch wide painters striping masking tape. It is very reasonable and easy to use. Take care Roger Re: Temporary guide supports

I use the 1/8 painters tape and also the mini cable ties, of which I have a gun that lets me tighten them very easily while positioning the guide. Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
