Take a look at the Phenix K2 blanks. Pricey; but they are really sweet!

Jon, Yes you can move the guides that have been wrapped with a Forhan lock. As mentioned above, they don't move as much as those guides without a lock wrap, but they will allow for guide adjustment as long as the guides are not out of alignment too much when wrapping. I use a lock wrap on all of my guide wraps. It cuts down problems in the future.

Geoff, I just placed a phone call to Carol at Upmost Enterprises and got an "outgoing message" that said they are closed until Jan. 2nd for the holidays. I want to take advantage of free shipping on the order of 3 Immortal blanks. I sent an email to Carol; but I am not sure if she is monitoring her email with the holiday vacation. How might you be able to assist? Geoff,

I bought one from Mudhole. Tried it and then ended up selling it to a guy in Montana. IMHO a waste of money.

Jon, I am going to add my 2 cents to this discussion for what it's worth. When I first started building micro guide rods I used a chart sold by Mudhole which positioned the micro guides on a rod. I would end up with one heck of alot of guides on a rod, say 14 to 16 guides on a 7' rod depending on the power of the blank. The line would definetly not touch the surface of the blank; however, I wa

David, I know St. Croix used to sell a SC IV a telescoping blank for spinnerbaits or flipping. I built one for a buddy, but I think it has also been discontinued

Wayne, For future reference have the vendor check the reel seat to see if the size you are ordering will fit. Just give them the distant from the end of the blank to the back of the reel seat in inches. If the size you have ordered doesn't fit they will ship the next size larger. In the case of the rod you are going to cut off 6" just add 6" to the distance measurement you provide th

Tommy, Yes, I build one many years ago; but I don't use it to locate the spline of the blank. Now, I just use it to hold the blank while static loading and adjust guide location.

Tommy, Many years ago, When I first leaned to build rods, I was taught to locate the rod spline and build accordingly. Much later in my rod building career, a buddy of my asked me to build him a Senko rod. He waited it light and sensitive and had the money to spend. I suggest that he go with a high quality blank and titanium micro guides. He decided to go with a St Croix SC V blank. I carefu

mike, As for epoxies, in IMHO, U-40 Rod Bond is much easier to us and much stronger than the 5, 10 or 15 minute epoxies for gluing reel seats. It is available in slow cure or fast cure and stays where it is applied. As for reel seat arbors, I prefer the graphite arbors.

jon, I finally bit the bullet and bought a supply of winding checks, (pretty large investment), and a bunch of tip tops. I still find that I don't seem to have the ring size tip top tube or ring size in stock when I am building or repairing a rod. 'end up having to wait on the shipment from a vendor, but such is life!

Tom, Your analogy of the fast action rod, ("a longer rod"), and the mod. fast rod, (" a shorter rod"), is outstanding. I had never thought of it that way, but so very true!

Phil, I charge my customers my direct costs on all components, plus $50-$75 labor for the construction of the rod depending on the number of guides/rod length. I know I am not charging what the rod is worth; but my biggest competition is "store bought rods". I build 90% freshwater, (bass), rods with a few ocean rods for close friends. When you add State Sales Tax, (8% here in CA), an

As Spencer indicates above, 3 -5 wraps are all you need to secure the thread. I also trim the thread tag end to a bout 1-2 inches in length before pulling under to minimize the raveling of the thread...especially true if you are wrapping with metallic thread.

Buss, I have only done one Kayak rod for a work buddy and I used a loop of heavy parachute cord and epoxied it under the back end of the front split grip. I then hooked a phone bungee cord to the loop and it worked great according to my buddy.

Michael, If the metallic thread is separating, I would venture a guess that is a result of a thread having too much tension on it when it is wrapped. I use hand tension on all my wraps and notice if I have too much tension the metallic will pull down around the core thread. As for fading you should not have any trouble with silver metallic. I have found blue metallic fades the worst followed c

Gary, I have built too many D/S Rods to count and IMHO the Rainshadow blanks can not be beat. As for Guide type and sizing I would highly recommend the Fuji KR guides. Anglers Resource has a tab on their wed site that give you the sizing and location of the guides for the KR Guides. You enter the rod length, reel size and line test for your build and it calculates the guides sizes and positio

Thomas, Thank you for the info on the new Eternity 2 blanks. I had built a number of the older model Eternity 2 for clients and a bunch of the Immortals; but 'had tried one of the new Eternity 2's being built by NFC for Batson. I will definitely put one up to replace my drop shot rod sitting on the bottom of Lake Silverwood. What really makes it hurt is that it had a new Shamano Sustain reel o
