Ed, Most all of the Vendors will check a winding check size for you before shipping. In my experience the rubber winding checks will stretch a little to fit the blank. If you talk with the vendor on the phone they will need to know how far up from the butt of the blank you will be positioning the reel seat, grips etc and then they can mark the blank with a china pencil and select the correct s

Sergiy, I used a sewing machine motor when I built my wrapper. I also used the foot pedal from the portable sewing machine. I just picked up a rheostat from the local hardware store and wired it in line of the 120 volt supply to the motor. The rheostat is one that is used as a light dimmer switch. It works great!

Matthew, There are no "stupid questions" on this site. You will learn more on here than any other site that you could research. I've been building rods for over 20 years and still continue to learn new things by reading the questions presented by others. I check it every morning.

Lynn, I just saw a spinning rod, (with the graphic guides), priced at $279.99 to $289.99 on another web site. Here is the description from the site: Finely tuned to the specifications of Daiwa’s Elite Series pro-staffers, the Daiwa Tatula Elite AGS Spinning Rods are the result of an intense three-year project that was aimed at satisfying the requirements of tournament anglers. Delivering

I was wondering if the graphite guides are available to the custom builder or is that a Diawa exclusive?

David, You might give Duckett a call and ask them for help. I am sure they will tell you about voiding the warranty and all. I have given Gary Dobyns a call a couple of times and they have sent me replacement guides, (include matching thread), at no charge, not even shipping charges. I was simple amazed!

Dane, While ProKote goes on like a dream, I stopped using it, because I had a number of rods that showed signs of epoxy chipping or denting entirely too soon. Especially in the areas of the hook keepers.

Bruce, I noticed in the current issue of RodMaker magazine an advertisement for Peak Bamboo. Their website link is: PEAKBAMBOO.COM. They indicate Fly rod, spinning rods, casting rods, surf rods and more!

Brandon, I have found ProKote to be very soft after it has set up. I use to use ProKote exclusively, but I changed epoxies due to the softness of Prokote.

Roger, As an alternative to the FG Knot, try the knot appearing in this Tacklewarehouse Video. The demonstration on how to try the knot starts at 7:00 minutes into the video. I have been using this know to attach braid to floro line and it works great, and it's easier to tie than the FG Knot, IMHO. Here's a link to the video:

Tony, I have wrapped multiple rods with blue CF & Metallic threads and have found blue fades really bad in the sunlight, especially the blue metallics. Just a heads up.

Rich, I had built numerous crank bait sticks including the Phenix glass crank bait sticks. Then I had a buddy ordered a composite crank bait stick. After some phone discussion and internet reviews, he chose the Phenix Rods X12- B Composite Crankbait Rod, Blank Color: Matte Charcoal, Rod Length: 7’-6”, Pieces: 1, Line: 8-20 lb., Lure: ¼ - 1 oz., Action: Moderate, Butt: .561, Tip: 5, Blank Wt.:

David, Maybe this will help....I just copied and pasted this from the GPS Software on the Anglers Resource web site: Rod Length: 6'-10", (82"), Spool Tip at 13", Reel Size 3000, (same guide spacing for a size 2000 reels), Micro rod, Line 6-10 braid. 1) Enter the total length in inches of your rod blank 82" 2) Mount you reel in the reel seat and enter the distance fr

Tyler, I have followed Tom's instructions on the repairing of three broken rods over the last four of years and the rods are still working fine. My biggest problem with the repairs has been finding fiberglass rods from which I could cut a collar to repair brakes in the tip areas on the rods. I sacrificed one of my old fiberglass Saber pistol grip bass rod to repair one, (broke my heart to cut

Alan, As an alternative to Roger's suggest, you can check at a local second hand store and pick up a used sewing machine. I found a portable sewing machine at a local store for $25 and I don't think it had hardly ever been used, I salvage the motor and foot pedal and it still going strong after 10 years + of use.

Bret, I built my first 3 or 4 rods on a hand wrapper. I then picked up a Singer sewing machine at a second hand store, salvage the motor from it, bought a Pac Bay chuck and built rod supports from rollers purchased at a local hardware store. That was 10 years ago and it is still going strong. I did not plan on opening a business; but friends kept asking me to build them a rod, so I decided to

I am located in California and order most of my supplies from Mudhole. If I order rod building components, other than a blank, Mudhole will most likely ship the order through UPS. In the last year, or so, I have noticed that UPS drops the shipment off with the USPS, which ultimately deliveries the shipment. This process has added at least one or two more days before I receive the shipment....bumm

Dan, I agree with David's assessment of the nylon Stil Jackets. They are hard on the guides....burnish off the coating on the outside of the rings. Bass Pro sells some soft cloth rod bangs and I think they are the way to go, unless you make your own rod bags.

Nate, Without a doubt, you've received a different blank. I've built 6 or 7 of the IMMWS68MXF as Bass drop-shot rods and they were all right on specifications.
