Bob, my initial thought was that exact line of blanks but then

Thank you for the replies!
Spencer,
Yes, that's exactly what he's doing. La Zona is a tail water that sees heavy current at times- combine that with world class size fish and the need for heavier tackle is there. If he was fishing head water streams in Bolivia with smaller fish and less current, I'd be looking at lighter gear.
I'm not a fan of trying to use a fly rod for this applicati

Good afternoon,
I have a customer looking for a travel rod to fish for Golden Dorado in South America. He fishes La Zona and some places in Bolivia throwing the typical topwater baits and spinnerbaits ranging in weight from 1.5-5oz. I'm afraid the blank he wants doesn't exist- 4 piece, 7'6", and white. I'm more concerned with getting him the proper rod for the job than meeting the colo

Will you be adding any models to the musky lineup? Will you be offering any of the SCIV or SCV musky blanks? Builders that concentrate on musky builds don’t have much to pick from. The blanks you currently offer are our saving grace! I’d like to get my hands on an SCV 9’ H blank at some point.
Thank you ,

The Rod Geeks 8’6” XH is a great big bait blank. Trim 1”-1.5” off the tip and extend it to 9’. I built one for myself just like it.
I prefer the Fuji K framed Alconites.

Good morning,
I need a blank recommendation for a couple builds that will be used for walleye fishing from a boat. The preferred method is drifting worm harnesses. I'm not at all familiar with this technique and could use some suggestions on inexpensive blanks.
Thank you,
Jeremy

Paul, I may have what you’re looking for. Shoot an email to me and I’ll send you some pictures.

Thanks for the feedback Billy. I was afraid of that happening with throwing some of the big baits that musky fishermen use and the stress of setting the hook on a 30lb + fish.

Thanks for the quick response guys! I know the Fuji seats are tough, it’s the ferrule system that concerns me. I’m going to give it a shot and I’ll let you know if there’s any trouble.
Thanks again,
Jeremy

I have a question about the reel seat with in the subject line. I know that it says it’s a ‘boat seat’ which I assume means it can take some abuse. My question is, will it hold up to the stress of Musky fishing and throwing 8-10 oz baits from sunup to sundown on a daily basis? The only part I’m worried about is the ferrule nut.
Thanks in advance,
Jeremy

I use a section of a heavy wall blank. It's easy to do if you follow the instructions in the library article.

I think you'll find that it's a very limited market when shopping for musky blanks. Nothing exists with those specs so you'll need to get creative. My recommendation is to extend the 8'6" XH RodGeeks blank or extend the big MHX blank (only available on their website). I built a custom 9 1/2 foot XH RodGeeks, I use it for baits bigger than 16 ounces.

I haven't built on that particular MHX blank. In general, the RodGeeks are stiffer and have a faster action than the MHX blanks.

I forgot about that blank. St Croix hasn't made it for several years. The only guy I knew who liked that blank was a guide on St Clair with the initials of S.B. Is that your customer?
I think the XH RodGeeks is as close as you'll find. Take 2" off the tip and you'll be good.
There may be some great blanks in the saltwater world that work well. I'm not very familiar with them as

XXXXH rating means nothing and I'm pretty sure it doesn't exist. What is the intended use of the rod?
The best big bait rod I've found is the Premier (RodGeeks) XH with a couple inches trimmed off the tip. It will throw 16oz and barely flex.
FYI, it's hard to keep fish pinned with such a stiff rod.

77. Re: Musky blanks
Chad, most guys typically want a rear handle length in the 16-18" range and 1.25" diameter. Fore grips are usually 5" with the same diameter.
It's all about personal preference but I've found those to be the most common sizes for my customers.

Try Tackle Industries. Very nice blanks for the price.

I use Fuji LDB guides on a large percentage of my musky rod builds and haven't had a failure yet. I generally stick with the 6's but I've used the smaller sizes with equal success. They all easily pass 100lb braid. I've used them on rods built to throw pounders and they hold up fine. Make sure to do your locking wraps!!!

Lots of good advice here. I just moved and am in the process of building my rod room as well. I've been blessed with a basement that's over 1000 square feet. I'm currently planning on a 13'x16' rod building room which is almost twice the size of my old one. It will be insulated on all 4 walls, have plenty of outlets and lights, and be painted white. I am not using drywall though. I will be

If you're running small braid, test cast with a 12. I'd be willing to bet it would work well.

I did quite a bit of searching and wasn't able to come u with a blank that fits what you're looking for. If I was in your position, I would probably get a couple of Mudhole's CRB E-glass blanks and build a two-piece. They retail for around $20 so you wouldn't have much in them. I would think that the 7L or 7M would work well. Mudhole's tech support should be able to tell you if those particul

For big rubber, the Big Nasty and Big Dawg are hard to beat. The RodGeeks 8'6" XH is also a great choice.
For lighter glide baits you'll most likely want a shorter rod. The Downsizer would be a great choice or any MH in the RodGeeks lineup.

There used to be a guy that offered colored guides, not sure if he's still in business. I believe I saw him posting on the nerbs FB page...

Herb, I'm looking for something at a decent price. If money was no object, CTS would be my pick.
Ron, those are great blanks but they wouldn't stand up to a peacock bass.

The specs look good but the action is way off on those catfish rods. Musky guys would not like them.

The title says it all. Didn't Batson used to carry something like this? I have a customer that needs one for throwing woodchoppers.
Any ideas?
Thanks,
