Buzz, I don't think you'll find what you're looking for, I've looked for years. There are some two piece saltwater that may work, but they are mostly very heavy and not great options. Your best bet is telescoping. Tackle Industries has some great ones available in lengths from 9'- 10'6". Jeremy

I don't know any builders or fishermen who think the Lami musky blanks can handle the lures they are spec'd for. Wait as long as you want. Also, don't miss-quote me. I said they are rated for 8 oz and they will barely handle 4 oz. It's hard to discuss facts with someone who can't remember (or read them). jeremy

No problem Bill. Yes, Lami blanks are very over-rated meaning they won't handle anywhere near the lure weights that are spec'd for them. Like I said above, I love their blanks, they're great for certain applications, the quality is outstanding and they are very light weight. I admit it doesn't make me happy but there's nothing I can do about it. To be honest, extensive knowledge of blanks a

Bill, Do you have anything meaningful to contribute or are you just here to rant? Calm down there big guy. I know what I'm talking about, muskie rods are 95% of my business. If you want to get upset with someone over rod ratings, go to the people who rate them. I build/use them on an almost daily basis so very familiar with what certain blanks will and will not do. Lami's are well kn

Lami's are WAY over-rated. They won't handle anywhere near their weight rating. However, they are one of my favorite musky blanks and would be a perfect choice for this application. Get the 8' XH. It will work great for crank baits and it will throw down to 3/4 oz. I typically use mine for 1-3 oz baits. Jeremy

Dennis, the best is never the cheapest. I was shocked by the price also. However, after using them on a few builds (musky rods) I've been shocked at the noticeable difference in weight and performance. Jeremy

Does anyone happen to have a couple of these lying around? I can use size 20 and 22. Billy V is checking with Matagi for me but I'd like to get my hands on a few more if anyone has them. I've checked around with suppliers here in the U.S., no one has them- including Anglers Rsrc. They are only available overseas and are very expensive. Thanks, Jeremy

I've never built on any St Croix musky rods that were anything but perfectly smooth. I've built on all the musky lines- Premier, Avid, and Legend. I've never seen any St Croix rod that was anything but smooth. Again, it sounds like a quality control issue. Mike, it can't be sanded out unless you plan to repaint the blank. jeremy

FYI, St Croix tends to 'underrate' their musky blanks. They can handle more weight than they are rated for. jeremy

Can you post a pictures if practical? I build on a ton of the Legend blanks and have never had an issue like that. Sounds like something slipped past quality control. jeremy

Hey guys, If this reel seat exists, someone on this forum will know about it. I've never found a more knowledgeable group anywhere. Thanks in advance! I'm looking for a ferrule type reel seat but in a casting style with a trigger. I'm not aware of any that exist. I know of the ALPS CAH-F and the Pac Bay CHannel Lock 2 Ferruled seat, but they are both spinning style. I'm well aware th

Hey guys, I'm getting ready to order my first set of Winn grips (the 3 piece split grip set with the 3.5" rear grip) for a Batson SB720-4. My question is what size reel seat matches up well to them? I typically go with a Fuji DPSD 18 or 20 on builds. Will these work? If not, what will? thanks, jeremy

Trey, There are so many reasons for you to do this! First, you can build rods exactly the way you want them built. Second, you can build rods that will perform better than than any factory rod. Third, it's incredibly rewarding to catch fish on a rod you've built yourself. You don't need much to get started. I built my first 20 rods using a cardboard box, not a fancy wrapper. You'v

I had to go back 6 or 7 pages to find the discussion but I found it! At the time of the post, Ron said these were in stock- up to a 7.5 tube. jeremy

Peter, Don't sand the tip! I know there is a 7.5 tip with a smaller ring...can't remember who makes it. There was a discussion here about the same issue not long ago. Someone mentioned a 7.5 tube with a size 4 or 5 ring being available. I'll see if I can find the post for you, I haven't had any luck yet. Roger and Tim, I put micros on musky rods all the time. They work on musky rods ju

My favorite for jerks is the 6'8" MXF from the St Croix lineup. Pick your poison: SCIII, SCIV, or SCV. jeremy

Ken, if that method works for you, then there's no reason to change. I just got tired the time it took to ream grips and clean up all of the excess epoxy. For me, this method is the quickest and cleanest. It takes me 1/10 of the time that it used to. jeremy

The rubber cement method is far superior to any other method. All others are a waste of time and materials (ie- wasted epoxy). It also requires far less effort! jeremy

St Croix's 2S66MLF-3 is my pick. I've had one for years and have used it for anything from local fishing for smallmouth to big trout in WY. It can handle some big fish! Jeremy

Roger, Isn't this thread about musky rods? The OP asked about guides for musky rods- specifically a 9' casting rod. I have no idea where you're coming from on your last two posts... Jeremy

I usually use Fuji K framed guides. I go as small as possible for runners with 8's being the absolute largest I will ever use- I would never use a 10, there's no need. I routinely used the K framed in 5.5 for runners. For micros, I use the Fuji LDB's or American Tackle HD micros as runners. Again, there's no need for large guides as runners, they just add unneeded weight. jeremy

Spencer, Rest assured, this is a very friendly discussion. That's the one thing I hate about forums, you can't see a person's facial expressions or hear their tone of voice. I think you missed the point of my post regarding rod length. My point was that things have changed in the last 20 years- materials, building techniques, fishermen's preferences, and our knowledge of our craft. I n

Spencer, the rods of today are nothing like the rods of 20 years ago. Back then, a 7' musky rod was considered very long. Now, the average rod I build is 9' and I'm consistently asked to build rods between 9' and 10'6". The materials the rods are built out of have also drastically changed. As the building materials have changed, so have the methods for building the rods. The majorit
