Just wanted to give a shout out to Don Morse at American Tackle. A few weeks ago I posted that I have a few customer rods to repair, and I wasn’t sure on the guide/tip manufacturer. Don mentioned they may be American Tackle guides, but to send him some photos. With the help from Don I ordered the correct guides and tips. Don, thank you very much for all of your help! Does anyone know what kind of guides and tips Lew's Rods uses? I contacted Lew's but they didn't help much. The rods are:  Team Lew's Speed Stick Pro-Ti  TLPT73MH   7'3”    Custom Speed Stick  HM60        LMHC 7'6”   Magnum Heavy Cover  Thanks for your help! Lynn Williams

Lynn Your right the Dobyns Rods has some tuff epoxy. I used an alcohol lamp to heat the epoxy then cut along the top of the guide foot. After I cut along the top of the guide foot I go back and heat the guide wrap again as I rotate the rod. This seams to help soften the epoxy enough to be able to peel it off. I think the Kevlar wrap your talking about is the decorative wrap they have in fro

Jack, Here's a wall mounted 4 rod dryer similar to FC but single wide, you could use the same concept to make a single rod dryer. All of the support brackets and the motor bracket was made using Plexiglas. The dryer sets out from the wall about 5-1/2 inches. Mud Hole has some different types of single rod dryer also. If you can't find what you need and don't want to make it I wo

I might check out “Rod Glove” they have a line for the micro guides that is a tight weave to prevent the micro guides from popping through the mesh. They also have a Pro Series Neoprene Rod Glove which the guides won't pop through, great for the rod locker.

Bob's right the mandrel looks like the one's I made at Backlash Tools. I don't think Andy Dear made any mandrels with the 1 inch cut shoulder. Barry, look on the end where the 1 inch cut shoulder is and see if there's a '' B '' stamp in the end. Lynn Williams

Thomas, I haven't heard of the 7/16" mandrel flexing, most of the time it's the 1/4" and 5/16" mandrels that will flex when to much pressure is applied. If you want, email me with your phone # and a good time to call and I'll call, i would be glad to discuss this. I apologize for the late reply, I've been out out of town. Lynn Williams wcrod

Thomas, When installing the mandrel in the lathe chuck, tighten up snug not tight, and then install the tail stock in place. Loosen and re-tighten chuck tight, then tighten tailstock. Do not over tighten tail stock as this will cause the mandrel to flex. Only apply enough pressure from the live center to provide friction for the center to spin. If it "chatters" stop the lathe, loosen

Jim, I used some counter tops I found at a local home improvement center that had some small defects so I got them at a discount price and the base of the benches are inexpensive 2 door cabinet organizer, some with a drawer. I installed spacers under the counter top to adjust the bench height until the benches felt right to me. I used some PVC pipe as legs to support the back of the benches.

Charles, I contacted Abu Garcia a few years ago and they told me that they make their own guides and don't offer the guides for the Veritas or Vengeance rods. I lucked out and found a couple of broken Veritas rods at one of the tackle stores I do repairs for and I've been using the guides from them for my repairs. Let me know what guide you need and I'll check and see if I have one, I only

Thomas, the marker I used in the guide alignment tool was a Pen-Touch extra fine point but I design the tool so it would take most any size marker. Sharpie also came out with a oil-based opaque paint marker extra fine point and it works well too, but remember that both Pen-Touch and Sharpie markers are Permanent markers. I always test a small area on the blank I'm going to use to make sure I can
