Dennis,
I am one of the other 400 who have read this thread. I am a new hobby builder. I build and repair rods for members of the bass club I am a member, plus repair of my own, rods. Only 1 out of +/- 20 (that I use during the year) of which I have built. As there is a learning curve with knowing how and being able to build a rod, there is a learning curve with buying, (IMO). I have spent

Concerning the previous thread (more guides on S. Reese's rods) is there any merit of using say 12 guides on a 7' rod if the rod is a heavy action rod and is used with braided line? Thought being that braided line has no give comparied to mono. Would the extra guides help distribute the shock with a hard hook set. I have a rod that I am starting for a friend who is a heavy braid user.

154. Re: Drying motors
I have a RW-XL3 wrapper with a finishing motor attached. I do have a 6 rpm drying motor which I do move rods to dry. Sometimes I want more speed. Never tried finishing in the 100 rpm range. My wrapping motor is variable, foot controled. The foot control is extremely sensitive.

Do any of you know where or if someone supplies drying motors that are variable speed. In the 6 to 30 rpm range?

The most I could get out of the tale was the rods deflected and twisted. You know how second hand rumors go. That's why I did not mention the manufactures name. On to better things.

Fellas to the best of my knowledge this post is as close as second hand info can be. It seems that when the blank go hot it deflected

159. For your comment!
A fisherman buys several rods (all the same specs) from a relatively new rod manufacture, (we will not memtion the brand name). He takes the rods to a bass tournament some where on Kentucky Lake during a rather warm day this summer.
During the day he picks up the rod and makes a cast. Something is wrong. He looks at the rod and 3 or 4 guides are out of line, twisted. He has the same spec

If you want to balance a rod with a reel, would you not want to anticipate the weight of the lure you may be casting or with the reel only?

"I have some All Stars that almost the entire rod will turn white in as little as a heavy dew, doesn't have to be raining-doesn't have to be used that day-just laying on the deck. Blank finish, guide finish, long finish runs over decals.....white."
Most of mine are All Stars as well.

This problem is on store bought rods, with some age on them.

What is happening when a rod gets wet, rain for example, and the guide and butt wrap finish turns milky white?

Check with Scott Parsons at Scott's Custom Rods. He also owns Fishsticks. I got one from him several weeks ago.

Pick out about 4 to 6 companies. Make some moderate size purchases and see who performs. That's what I am in the process of doing. Takes a while but in time you will develope some relationships with probably more than one company. I'm just a hobby builder, and a new one at that so I'm a retail paying fool. No wholesale yet.

I'm building some casting rods with exposed reel seats (trigger type). I sized the reel seats a little small so I have to reem the interior just a little for a tight fit where the rod is exposed. No problem at this point.
Question:
Do you have to use a premade arbor for the front of the reel seat? I don't see how tape can be used as you might do if the seat that is not exposed. (Obvious

I have seen some comments on the forum in the past concerning how underwraps would effect the action of a rod. Did a seacch and could not find what I was looking for so here are 2 questions. I am talking about bass rods here.
1. Does underwraps effect the action of a rod? (I remember seeing different comments).
2. If you layout a guide wrap that is more than say 4 to 6 threads past each t

Bob, I bought some blanks the other day that came from across the pond. (not to my knowledge when I purchased them). Just caused me to wonder. Nothing more. I'm green to the craft.
Thanks to all for your comments.

I've only been building for a short time. I started off with Flex Lite, (and still use it), and have noticed the same thing. I have thought it was my problem. Poor lighting while applying the second coat. I use a spatula. The finish is so clear I find myself not applying the finish to the entire wrap without very good light.
The mix does not appear to move across the wrap unless

I have purchased a RW3-XL wraping/finishing lathe. It was what is called an improved thread carriage. I have no problem with the carriage using Hobby size spool of thread but can just barely use a spool of Madeira thread. I can get one washer and a wing nut, but no spring to adjust tension.
I thought I had seen another carriage out on the market that might solve this problem. Does anybod
