OK need a little help here please . In Dec. my son asked me to build a rod for my four grandchildren. Instead of going the high end he decided for me to build on a kit blank. So I ordered four Forecast SP-842 7' 6-12 lbs. Wanting to build on the straightest axis. All four blanks has a slight bend up close to the tip. Is it correct to put the bend up at the tip for a spinning rod ??
Thanks in ad

34. Re: Rod Lathe
Being a hobby builder myself, and not a lot of room I went the Grizzly route . I mounted it on a 1x6 for easy storage . When needed just set it up on my carport and have no dust in my work area .. It fits the bill for me and enjoy using it ..

Thanks for the replies, Since the grips or handles was already wrapped with butt cord ,Im thinking I'll go with the permagloss or urethane. However I do have another smaller pair that don't have anything on so I'll give the plasti dip a try .. again thanks for your help.

This may be a little off topic (kinda), so here's my question. I found me a real nice 11" pair of neddle nose pliers at a yard sale. The grips are wrapped with butt cord. The cord cleaned up real well, but it had some kind of coating that was pretty much worned off. So I'm asking what would be the best coating to recoat the cord ???
All replies appreciated <<<<DON>>>>

Yep ! I use the slip clutch on my Pac Bay wrapper, however I do have the upgraded jaws. And like Steve said, it does have a tension screw in the center. It was a bear at first, with carpal tunnel in both hands ,until someone on the fourm advised me about the screw. Purchased mine from Mudhole ....

Jim : Anytime I have a rebuild that I have to deal with tarnish and corrosion.I remove the guides and soak them in nothing more than distilled white vinagar.Let the guides set in the vinagar for about 5 minutes or more, swish them around in the solution a few times .Them remove them and rinse them real well with luke warm water . Set them on a paper towel and let them air dry. Then I'll take toot

49. Re: Eva shaping
Yep! Use the same set up as Berry. I'm very well pleased with the set up.As stated won't turn wood, but handles eva and cork real well. Have mine mounted on a 1"x8"x4' board so it's portable. I do all my turning out doors to keep dust out from my work area.

50. Re: Lathe
Hal: I own the Grizzly Hobby lathe. As just being a Hobby Builder it has served me very well. As Tom stated it is well suited for cork and eva . I mounted mine on a 1x 4 4' long and added a resep box and on /off switch. This way I just plug my drill in the resep and turn the on/off switch to run the drill. With this set up I don't have to keep locking the drill tricker.. It was well worth the mon

I have used CRC Knock'er Loose penetrating solvent, it is made to dissolve rust and corrosion . I have had good results with it . Like Tom said give it plenty of time to work. Don't rush it... You might have to us a couple of applications.I have used this on my boat all the time to free up parts from salt water corrosion . It has worked for me.. Good luck.. <<<<DON>>>>
