I use the same approach as Walker, I have slowed myself down, stopped trying to beat the clock.Apply my finish in two settings.I have started to enjoy what I once dreaded.Applying the finish coat.I found that using this method my wraps has come out a lot smoother and no bubbles. I use Flex coat High and lite and diamond ll.

Greg,I'm just a Hobby builder and build a few rods for family and friends,I do have a list of people that have split cane boat rods and old bamboo fly rods that they want guide re-wraps done to hang in there dens. So that was a thought. Although lots of fishermen hang out in there dens after a fishing trip

Hello Rod builders. Just posted two pictures on the photo page under miscellanious of a box of thread that I found at a antique shop. Was wonder if any of you rod builders have ever heard of it, or how far back was it sold on the market.
On the spool sticker is wrote-- Herter's Flexible Twist Rod Winding Thread size 3M. Made of controlled diameter Nylon. As you can see it's on wooden spools 50

John: I use the same technique as Tom.However I might add to this, that you use a sharp razor.I use a new razor for each new build I do.I,m only a Hobby builder so I don't go through to many blades.I bought two boxes of 100 razor blades each at Harbor Freight for $3.00 per box,so I'm good to go for along time. Hope this helps.

Thanks Tom. I know I'm taking a risk here.Even though I have an Aunt that lives 30 minutes from High Point. My wife and I have been trying to come up with some way to make the trip.I'm still out of work and just can't seem to make things balance out.
It would just kill me to travel that fare and not have money to spend on the goodies.Even though I know that just with the seminars you have going o

Tom: I'm sorry but! Before this thread is put to rest,I have one question.I have been wanting to attend this show since it has began and have yet been able to make it .Every year something has come up just before the event, that prevents me from coming.
The talk before the Big Show and after just pushes my blood pressure out of sight.I think that I read that this will be the last show that you'l

139. Re: Rod Information
Thanks Tom!That is the type of information I was looking for.My primary intrest was in the age.Who ever owned it must not of used it very much, for as it is in remarkably great shape. The reason I purchased it was, for the condition it was in, and I drive an S10 pickup and this will fit behind my seat nicely. This way I'll always have a rod with me at all times. So the monetary thing don't matter.

Ok I just put some pictures of a rod on the photo page.Looking for any back round information I can get.
The rod is a 7' Cortland 1-658-1 carbide tip.I paid $7.50 at thrift store.
The rod is in real good condition, just a couple minor scuffs on the thread. Also can anybody tell me what kind of finish that might have been used on it? It almost looks like C/P.It's thin and it's quiet hard.Has a cle

Well don't that beat all. It's funny you had made that post about the drill. Here just the other day I was using my Grizzly lathe and the drill seemed alittle warm. Was going to call them and ask about getting a replacement. But it looks as though I'm a day late and dollar short. However in this case lots of grips short.
If you should find a drill that fits the hobby lathe would you please post it.I

You stated that you already have Toms book and some tapes.By chance did you get Flex Coat Rod Building" How we do it " by Roger Seider ??? Great tape. Watch that a few times and it should spark an intrest to get started.
The Expo is coming up in N.C,If you can make that, that should really spark your intrest BIG TIME.
Good luck, and have fun.Oh yea! If you do get started, you just ca

Mo:
You might want to make one. go to the photo page and click onto equipment and tools.Go to page ( 27 ) scrool down to cool tool by Michael Joyce. Sewing machine motor with a 3m sandind disc.
You can use free hand or mound it to a base.Maybe some scrounging around could end up real cheap.
Probably could find many uses for it in the work shop.
Hope this might help you out, good luck! <&l
