61. RTV for Plug?
This has probably been covered here before. I could not find it with a search. I have an open end on a male section. Can I, should I plug it with RTV silicone or does it need to be something more firm?

The product Jeremy referenced as Liquid Glass is pretty common. It looks about like any other epoxy including most of what is sold as rod building epoxy, which I tend to believe is all that any of these things are anyway. Repackaged woodworking epoxies. And they all turn yellow at some point from what I have seen.
I have no knowledge of the Liquiglass product that Ken reviewed so I cannot comm

There are probably any number of thread types that would be OK for use as a guide wrapping thread. Nylon is used by the specialty makers because the factory rod companies know it is the strongest for its diameter and has the most long term durability for exterior use.

It was a spam E-mail. I was making a joke.

65. New printer
Just got an E-mail offer from a company advertising "money printing computers" about their new line of printers. If it can print a good copy of a dollar bill I would think it would be great for rod decals. What do you think?

If room is available, would you consider adding any general fishing tackle dealers?

Whoa! Having done this I would say to wait a full WEEK before wrapping on a Lumaseal surface. If you wrap too soon the thread will tend to dig in to the finish and you will not be able to burnish it. If you remove it you will see ridges left by the thread indentations into the surface. You need to let the coating get really hard before wrapping.

Thanks guys. This is what I was after. I think I am going to try ten dollars and then keep track of how many rods I can complete with some of the stuff and then refigure if I have to. Thanks again.

69. Additional Costs
I am trying to do a break down on actual cost so that I can see exactly what my profit on a rod is. How do you factor in something like thread, CP, epoxy, razor blades and things like that? Over time you do have to replace these things so I was thinking of adding in some amount to each rod, but the quantity of each used per rod is not always going to be the same. Ideas? Average cost?

By all means let us know when you find out how a rod can be cast and fished on a single axis.......... as most spine proponents would seem to suggest can be done!

You are going to be getting a lot more than just a "magazine." Wait and see...... you are going wonder how much you have missed by not taking this all along. That same issue is going to teach you so many other things too. Anyone that is really serious about rod building gets a huge benefit from the magazine. it's the cutting edge.

No, no, no. These are very light guides with super thin ceramic rings. Nowhere near as heavy as any of those. Thanks for trying though.

Thanks, but the ALPS are still a lot thicker and heavier than the G-Lite guides. I did try Grey's website but they do not show the guides. E-mails have gone unanswered. I had seen these in a fishing magazine advertisement for their new spinning rods.

74. G-Lite guides?
There is a new type of guide on the 2010 Grey's rods out of the UK. They look like PB Minimas but have a very fine, thin ceramic ring. Grey's calls them G-Lite Ultralight SIC. Beautiful guides and appear to be very lightweight due to the extremely thin SIC ring. I see no reason why any ceramic ring needs to be as thick as most are. These seem to be a better idea. Am I missing something?

75. Re: New Conept
For sure try size 6, and if you have or can get them go on down to size 4. Try casting again and compare distance and ease to what you have now. Should be a little difference at least.

It will almost surely cast even further with just a little more effort....... but not too much! You can also overpower a rod and actually lose distance. A quarter ounce on #15 braid on a rod of that length should reach out 125 feet or so. I think you will get that once you lean into it just a little bit.
I would second the idea that if you have some even smaller guides for the choker and runni

I think Lloyd Bingham flew for FedX or some other freight carrier. I don't think he flew for any commercial airline company.

If anyone has it I would think Swampland would. Or the company listed in the article although I thought they had changed it or something.

I read the Rodmakers blog entry about epoxies and wanted to offer a comment for discussion. I assume this is okay for me to do here. The blog is not really set up for much back and forth exchange. I apologize if this is not the proper place.
Concerning wood working and craft epoxies, there is a wood working store near me that carries a large selection of System 3 bartop coatings. I have watche

Thank you. One final question. If a person was to cover a regular cork or foam grip with the carbon sleeve, would it make those grips harder? I assume it would. Maybe not as hard as those done over the hard urethane foam, but surely harder than uncovered cork or foam. Right? I'm thinking the carbon sleeve is stiff and so would add some stiffness to these grips when they are used as an underlaymen

Since a lot of you now have experience with the carbon fiber sleeved grips I wanted to ask what was the consensus on there handling. Slippery when wet? When dry? Scratch easily? Thank you in advance.

87. Armor Plate
Some years back there was a product out of FL that was called Armor Plate. It was used for coating guide wraps. Not sure if it was an epoxy or something else. It came in metal cans. It was a two part concoction. Curious to know if it is still being produced. I had seen a builder mention how much he liked it.

I have found the Crayola gel pens to work best for my inscriptions. I used to buy them at a local Hobby Lobby. They no longer stock them. Does anyone know of another source for this specific brand of gel pen? Thank you in advance.
