Before Mr Stevens gets to it, the one in Texas is CastAway, I believe. He'll confirm or correct.

Please pay attention to the type of repair stock used. You ALWAYS want to use repair stock with LESS modulas than the current rod is constructed of. Usually that would be a thin walled fiberglass stock, as per the repair article.

Rogerio, I commented on your photo, but I will restate her just in case. Contact the manufacturer if it was a factory made, and they should be able to tell you the exact color and thread used.

Vern, I have used Pat's tutorial, followed it to the letter, and as he states the U40 ColorLock 2 CP works exacly as he describes. The inlay turned out fabulous!

Rex, Billy Vivona could probably better explain this than me, but I'm gonna give it a shot. The only time you would need to coat your mandrel with something to necessitate release would be, if you were gluing or epoxying peices of EVA, or cork for that matter, together using the mandrel for alignment. Which is done quite regularly. Then you would need a release agent to be able to spin the

Jay, I have an Alps MD1000 that I had been using for decals until the holo's came out. I have not tried them in the Alps because instead of being sprayed on as with inkjet, the colors are heat applied and the holo effect (I don't think) would show through. However, that being said, I think that if you would turn off or not use the white undercoat, you would have a very striking holo font

I have an MD1000, and haven't used it since the Holo's came out. You just can't beat them for ease of use and beauty!!

As Tom suggests, a blank is a blank. There are many different builders, that frequent this forum, that have built the same blank into casting and spinning. Also Fly into spinning. The blank doesn't know what it's for until you build it.

To take Tom's advice a little further, go here to Ray Adams' Rod Builders Libray . then go under the "Thread Work" tab and take a look at the "Guide Wrap Color Designer by Dave Barrett" make sure you download the instructions right underneath it. It gives you all the Gudebrod thread options, and allows you to design your wraps right down to the number of wraps you want to

Be very careful with the heat. Don't hold the heat gun in one place for ore than a few seconds, keep it moving, and don't let it ge too hot. If using an industrial heat gun, run it on low or far enough away that it won't burn your hand when holding it behind the work.

Barry, There is an easier way!! Just buy some lengths of latex surgical tubing or go to a hobby store and buy sections of the tubing they use for fuel lines in RC airplanes and such, then take a razor blade and cut 1/16" bands from them. Now you pretty much have a lifetime supply of "rubber bands" to attach your guides for test casting or holding for wrapping. When wrapping,

Jerry, I just bought 2 Diawa Procaster 100's to put on rods I am building for a 7 yo nephew and 4 yo neice. They are very nice reels all metal, yet fairly inexpensive especially when purchased on the popular @#$%& site. They also make them in the underspin models. Another nice underspin model is the Johnson Scorpio, cast real easy and smooth.

One more suggestion for rods for kids: Get them GOOD reels!!!! If you just get cheap plastic reels, they will have all kinds of problems with them casting and retrieving, and it will stifle their enthusiasm and interest. Even though they are kids, they still deserve good quality gear that works!!

Take a look at the MudHole custom builder blanks. They come in different colors and lengths. I've built several kids rods out of them and they work great. They're inexpensive yet good blanks.

Why not build 1 rod that will acomplish both tasks? It's been discussed here recently, do a search. That would solve your problem of matching rods.

Knowing and dealing with MudHole, I can almost guarentee that the photo is NOT pirated. If it's on there website it is the exact product you will receive. I too have a TurnCrafter Pro, on the advise of Mike Barkley, and love it. The only other things I would suggest you get if they are offered is the bed extension, as that will help with boring your blank, and the variable speed option (a

I totally agree with Mark. I emailed Jimmi to design my company logo, within an hour I had a first draft. I replied with a couple changes, and within 20 minutes I had an email back with a winning draft. VERY reasonably priced, I might add. Kudo's Jimmi, well deserved,

Terry Henson, in his feather inlay seminar at ICRBE, mentioned he makes his swells with rod bond and then uses his lathe to sand and shape. I might add that he said that to blend the ramp into the rod blank he sands down JUST through the blank finish not getting into the fibers. If I'm incorrect, maybe he'll read this and chime in and correct me.
