Gary, As I'm sure that you can attest to, there is NOTHING like the smile of a child who catches that first fish on a rod that Daddy built for them!! The other heart warming fact is that NOBODY else in the WORLD has one just like it!! It just makes your whole body SMILE!! I know that feeling well, that's why I build mostly for children!! I don't have any children myself, but I have plen

Tom, Question, and your answer will dictate whether I do this or not. Would it be OK to scan the image and reprint it off on the Holographic media? Mind you I would only be doing this for myself and my own vehicle. I would NOT be doing it for resale or gift to anyone. I would NEVER stoop to the level of plagerism!! It goes completely against my morals and convictions!!

Bill is absolutly correct!! If you don't have the holographic media, get some ASAP, it just makes your decals COME ALIVE!!! I need to get more!!! I rebuild and customize rods for children, and this media has made ALL the differance in the world for them!!!

OK Jim and Chris, I get ya now!! I agree, I wouldn't put it on a rod I would be getting paid for, I see where that would cause a problem. I have, however, used officially licensed products on rods that I have built for friends and family, no money exchanged!! If they want to spend the big bucks on a lawyer to come after me for that, then more power to them. I just don't see ANY jury fi

I don't understand!!! If you've purchased an officially licensed product, then who are THEY to tell you how you can use it. After all you paid your money for the license of the product. What matters if it's hanging in someones ear or pasted on a bumper or window, or ordaining a fishing rod. You still paid for it, you didn't steal it!! Not being a smart alek, just trying to understand!!

Another note on what Bill just mentioned.......If you will do a search in the photo section for Cork Clamp, you can see pictures of many different versions that have been made by Rod Builders that frequest this forum. Remember: Necessity is the mother of invention!! You can go as simple or as elaborate as you like. ALWAYS more than one way to skin a cat!!!! I myself use the squeeze bar clam

If you purchase the officially licensed premade decals or jewelry items (for inlays), you can use them how ever you see fit without copyright infringement reprisals. Google the NFL Shop or Philly Eagles website and you should be able to come up with something. That's how I did my Steelers themed rods, with the exception that I purchased my decals / stickers, hat / lapel pins off the infamous

I believe you can pick up skeletons down to 15 mm, you'd have to do a little searching at the sponsors sites to the left.

In the future, will this design be offered in a skeleton version? That sure would open up a lot of CUSTOM looks!!!

If you know who the manufacturer is of the blank in the butt section, you may be able to contact them, and come close. If it's an obscure blank, then your pretty much locked into try it and see, if possible. Or just build a new rod.

I'll add this to Tom's point.....I would make sure that the internal sleeve goes AT LEAST 1 1/2 to 3/4 inchs maybe even a bit longer, to either side of the break. Also I agree to use fiberglass.

Be very careful when using as a winding check, as the nut gets brittle once it gets so small. Otherwise it turns excellently!!

After hearing Billy and others talk about Mr Ehler, I have had the chance to have some dealings with him after posting about a need for certain guides. I whole heartedly agree with those who have sung the praises of this man!! A more excellent human being would be hard to come by!! I am proud to have been able to make his aquaintance, at least via eMail. I surely hope to personally meet him

Awesome review, VERY informative. I have a local tournament angler that I want to get a micro build into the hands of for feedback. I haven't built the rod yet, but this sure gives me a LOT more clarity of mund about it. He fishes mostly rivers with the same style as Robert. Thank you Mr. Stevens for your insight as well, and you Steve (FROG), I'm sure you know what that means if you corre

Roger et al, I agree with you a splice is the best course of action here. However, in his initial post, Ron asked what the correct procedure would be to install a ferrule. I take that to mean, he is not at the point where he is comfortable with making a splice repair. I'm sure he'll correct me if I'm in error. Using the premise that you want to keep the present properties of the blank in

Mark, Take a look at the Johnson Scorpion underspins. They are red and silver, which would go very well with that rod. They come in a couple different sizes and are very light, but quality made with ball bearing drives. I got one for my 7 year old nephew, and he LOVES it.

Before Tom chimes in here, I BELIEVE, not sure though, that he might have been paid by Amato Publishing to pen that book and does not get royalties. I'm sure he'll correct me if I'm wrong. However, it is IMHO the very first book you should read and have in your personal library. Don't get me wrong there are other excellently written books on the subject out there by Dale Clemens, and othe

Mike, Use the search function (in the red bar above) with the parameters Blank Painting or Coloring, and specify All Dates. You will find extensive reading on the subject with several methods that have been successful for various builders, including myself. I build exclusively for children, and have painted many blanks that last a looong time. Click on my name and email me if you have spec

Bill, Just throwing this out there. Remember all those discussions about micro's and how the first "guide" the line see's is the one mounted to the reel that goes back and forth on the pawl? JMHO, but I wouldn't see the need for anything larger than a 10 or 12 as the butt guide. I'm with the other guy's with mounting it 20 - 24" in front of the reel.
