If you look im butting my grip up to a matagi machined part flat as glass that part is. Are you telling me that material can be folded over to a perfect 90 degree corner with an edge sharp enough to almost cut. Then put on a few coats of resin and still maintain that perfect edge.

No I used thread master heavy, I did that grip days ago before my Resin Research Project 21 System delivery came in. I just last night made up another core and wet out the sleeve on it with the new project 21 stuff. Its only the first coat and so far so good. Ill post when the grip is has a another coat or is finished. One thing I can say for now its pretty thin. Milton (Hank) Aldridge Wro

I saw a few posts down someone was trying to make their first carbon grip so I posted a picture of mine also. I could not stand how ugly the ends finish off. There is no way I would build a rod with the ends of the grips looking like that. So I did it my way, notice how the grip butts up to the handle. The camera is also taking pictures of dust I can not see with my eyes to give you an idea o

Hello all, I noticed a few people commenting on the the price for the West Systems resin and hardener used for the carbon sleeve layup article in the recent issue of Rodmaker. I also found it was more than I wanted to spend. So I did some searching and the surf board building guys have this product alot of them like. I odered some and will try it the 3 pint kit, paid $31.00 from a fibergl

I found spike-it blade dip to be the best so far. It is designed to dye metal spinner bait blades, dip it in and in about 20 seconds its dry and thats that.

How do you guys feel about the foam cored grips? I mean after the excitement and novelty of trying new things wears out. Im seeeing it as more work for the rod builder, having to flock the core is just an extra step and more work. Be it material spray flocking, carbon flocking or whatever else becomes of this. On one hand I guess you could charge more for the extra labor involved. That defeats

Where did you get this info from? I am a japanese tackle enthusiast the japanese dig the spiral wrapped rods. Its the reason why they have factory spiral wrapped rods, alot of their manufacturers build a few models this way. WE are the ones who lack the spiral wrapped rods. Matter of fact, to set the record straight the japanese gear is more radical and better quality than everything we ha

Opps that sounded a little confusing. 14mm is the biggest check thta can be used, matagi sizes them by ID.

The red area is just thread with a ramp made from finish. A 17mm is the biggest you can go or the check will interfere with the locking nut. Keep in mind those checks are ID+3mm = OD so a 17mm has ID of 14mm and 14 is the biggest you can use.

Measure the HANDLE first you dont want the htwcl to end up being bigger than the handle area it mates up with its going to look aweful... You need a caliper or metric measuring guage of some type. I dont think this can be done anyways the rod balnk would have to be pretty thin so the htwcl does not overhange the handle and end up looking like an umbrella. Another thing is the htwcl has a area th
