Happy New Year to all,I was lucky enough to recieve a Pac-Bay lathe chuck upgrade from the wife for Christmas(the hints paid off). After installing it I realized the the chuck runs alot noisier than the flimsey original and also has about .050 in runout on the chuck end.I believe it to be a defect(I hope).Any feedback on this will be appricieted. The unit looks real nice and in theory should work b

If the seat is large enough to fit over the butt of the blank it may be easier to remove the rear grip and work from that end.Are the grips EVA or cork?See above post for tips on the grip end of the project.I would use drywall tape(mesh type) for a bushing however to eliminate a repeat failure.

I have used a scrap piece of blank that will be a little bigger than the butt of the original.I then butt the big ends together and use the taper of the scrap to stretch the new one on.This requires the help of an assistant to hold the rod so you can push it on.This has only been necessary with lots of taper which you may have if its a salt water rod.

The cost to order them may outweigh ther cost to gear up to do it depending on how many you need per year. The turn around from the sponsers on the left that offer them is quite impressive if time is an issue.

When you say level do you mean the top or thr bottom of the blank.Taking the taper into consideration this would make a difference.I`m assuming the top.
