Goods pickings in Bay Head and Mantoloking New Jersey when they have clean up day.The people there have old school money and would rather toss it and buy new just to have new.My gain.

I use solid fiberglass blank pieces ,they wont collapse.Around this neck of the woods when heavey garbage pick up day rolls around several old boat rods can be had for the taking.(I actually found a Gloomis GL2 with a broken reel seat and fixed it for about $20.00.)Its amasing what some folks will throw out.

I go at least 3 days, epoxy finish some times will be a little soft and susceptable to scuffs and dents if you go from the dryer to the water.

Sounds like a mixing concern. For best results after mixing pour out the finish on tin foil and let it sit for about 5 mins. When the finish is used directly from the cup when you get to the end you start to take finish from the sides and this is sometimes not mixed well.

I also have a preference to the the Amtak guides as of late.Performance wise and quality wise they rate with or above the Fujis but look alot better with lots more choices in color.

As far as I know you cannot use trademarked logos without permission.Therefor a builder who offers it for sale is open to legal action. If you were to do yourself for personal use I`m not sure of the implications.Think of it if you kid draws a Red Sox logo on his school book covers its ok but if someone trys to sell these they need permission from the franchise.

Switch your thoughts to the drug manufacturers for a minute and think what would happen if they trademark a certain allergy pill or heart medication. When the patent runs out that opens the door for the generic manufacturers to offer the same basic pill for a fraction of the cost therefor making it affordable to those not so well off.It also saves the insurance companys some cash by requesting

Don,I ran into this and I too could not get it loose with heat.I was afraid of damaging the blank.Being that it was a heavy trolling rod I decieded to split the tip tube with a dremel and stick a screwdriver between the halves and twist.Care must be taken to keep the tube cool while cutting (cut through slowely and cool with water ).My theory with it being a trollng rod was that if I did overh

If the finish is on the blank it should be easily removed with a plastic butter knife or a finger nail.Do not use a steel knife as this may dig into the blank.

Tom, the LLC is an acronym for limited liability corporation or something similiar. This is a part of many company names due to the fact that they limit their liability.

Daniel,I ran into this once and drilled a tiny hole(smalllest from the index)in the blank above the bushing.I didnt apply epoxy above the bushing until the gimble was run all the way up.i then pulled it down and worked some epoxy into the gap.My belief is that the hole is so close to the butt that it will not effect strength and it was also filled by epoxy.I`m not really sure how much the pre

Clyde,I used rod bond mixed with some white pigment to fill the holes on the side of my boat after I removed the loran antenna and it took 3 days to fully cure.Of course I assume the pigment was at fault combined with cool weather.

The rod I spoke of 2 weeks ago with the wired on reel and structural epoxy on the guides and rings turned into a commerative rod for the family. As it goes my friend and coworker passed on this weekend from a major heart attack. The Friday night before his brother tells me they walked the Pt Pleasant NJ canal and fished a little. This was his favorite spot.He bragged to his brother about how I wa

As Tom suggests in Rodmaker if you have the grip on a mandrel and spinning use D thread but dont wrap it around your fingers to cut the material. This gives a straight cut.

Kenny ,The handle is the old standard wooden boat rod handle. The rod came from an uncle`s father in law.The for grip uses the tapered front to wrap up instead of using a hossel.I used those colors to try to keep the older look of the rod. This is basically one of many old wall hangers that started out as practice rods.

I use contact cement to hold it all together.Follow the directions on the can for best results.I do it with wax paper down because it gets sticky.See the link below this may be what you are looking for.

As part of a barter deal to get some paint work done on my jeep I took on the restoration of the painters favorite rod.Over the years he had applied body repair epoxy(not bondo) over the guide wraps and rings to hold it all together.Luckely a little heat softens it up for removal although it pulls up the blank finish on the edges(dont want to put heat here). The fixed end of the reel seat is br

Ralph,Welcome and beware it is addicting.Great idea to get a cheapie blank.Several of the sponsers at the left offer them.Another option is to rewrap and refinish old or discarded rods.Word got at at work that I was in search of old rods and they are still flowing in years later. You can never have too many to practice on.I sold several at a yard sale last year and put the money towards somet
