Samer,By flag ends I`m assuming you mean that the thread is sticking up through the wrap at the point it was pulled trough with the tie off loop. This can be repaired after the first coat of finish is applied,Take an Exacto or sharp razor blade and carefully cut it out being careful not to cut into the wrap. The next coat will smoothe it out.Try this,When putting in the tie off loop do it about 7

Jeff,I was going to send out the reel seats we conversed about this morning for replating.I am holding off till later on and I flocked a piece of EVA and will send it to you as a sample so you can feel it for yourself. It will take a little to dry and I dont want the USPS to smell the glue and get suspicious.

1805. Re: Flocking handles?
I`Ve done a butt grip(14 inche approx) and a forgrip about 5 inches plus a few small items to get the hang of it and bairly put a dent in the material(the over blow can be recycled)If I had to put a number on how many the mini kit will do it may well be 10 grips depending on the size.

Jeff,I dont have photos because the rod is gone but my first attempt came out great. The grips have a nice feel when done over cork(good use for the cork rings that dont make the grade and you have to use filler). As far trying it the basic kit is inexpensive and will go a long way.Like everything we all have our preferences so give it a try.

As Tom stated in another thread do not wipe with alcohol after sanding(or any other solvent).I usually blow it clean with compressed air.If you dont have a compressor the spray cans of air used to clean keyboards and electronics will do just as good if not better.

I usually apply finish last thing at night and let it run all night. That way there is no temptation to screw it up.

1811. Re: Mixing Epoxy Problem
Bonding epoxy should be mixed on a flat palet and folded together.Heat buildup is then reduced therefor increasing the work time.I would be curious to know if the package instructions say to mix on flat surface. Thanks for the heads up though we can never hear too many stories like this that we dont learn from.

If you know somebody in the bodyshop business that has there own paint mixing room the pigment supply is endless. The small amount that you will need is usually spilled on the bench every day.

Bill,I do mine on the drier.both whiile marbeling and drying.I do how ever reverse the direction of the motor both while applying the pigment(to avoid a directional effect)and while it is drying to prevent the colors from running in one direction. The running while drying has only been a concern when the epoxy has been heated to increase the work time.

Reciently started to restore several old Bamboo rods that I came across from a friend.I was wondering if anyone has a supplier for old style reel seats and hardware(I can supply pictures). If this is not possible how about rechromeing.Anybody have experience with this? Can anyone recomend a plater to do the job. These rods have unique seats and trim hardware that I would like to preserve.I ha

1820. Re: supplies
The reel seat can usually be removed by dipping in boiliing water to soften the bond.Depends on the type(graphite, brass, wood etc..).If the grips are EVA(foam) you may be able to replace them without removing the seat. With the price of reel seats(unless its a special fly rod seat) I usually cut them off with the dremel and replace it(most times no more than $10.00).As for supplies seee the list

Dave,I`m making one now after I saw the $85.00 Mudhole unit.Basically it is a piece of hard wood 1/4 inch thick(Lowes in the premier wood section). It is 2 1/2 inches wide and 6 inches long.On the bottom side I routed a round groove the length of the center.the top has a disgonal row of nails 3mm apart to equal 50 nails. They are numbered by a line drawn across the board ,every 5 the line is b

Maybe you can find a tip or guide with a same size ring, remove the ring and epoxy it into the old tip top.I have a Diawa interline and will look at it later to see if this is possible.

Unless they sell it with a matching reel and did it right in the first place it would probably be mediocre at best.

1826. Re: Rod Tip
Get the right size.Heating is not recomended(you may end up with a bigger tip closer to the butt if you heat it).Tom had a good suggestion in RMM to but the target size and one bigger and one smaller. The bigger can be shimmed with an underwrap to snug it up if need be.Unless you have a walk in rod building supply store keep the smaller. They are good to keep even in the tackle box(saved many tr

Bruce,Nice work,You are sure to love evne more when the finish goes on.As with anything you get better the more you do it and you are starting out at a pretty high rung on the ladder.
One thing I did notice is that the guide seems to not be perpendicular to the blank.I have run across this after guide prep and have had to "adjust "the guide feet to bring it back into spec.Yuo
