Tough question. You wrapped by hand alredy and that can be sufficient. As far a a lathe set up it depends what you want to spend.I myself have a Batson with a PacBay chuck upgrade and I can do what I want to do fairly well.Got about $300.00 tied up in it due to a great @#$%& deal on a new lathe. We all want a Renzetti and a Wood lathe but if its a hobby the kitchen and the bathroom remodel have to

Steve,I built a couple of spirials last year and boy did I catch%^&*&* for them>"What were you drunk" was quoted most often. Not that I deny having a few beers while I relax at the wrapper but I had to make believers out of seasoned fisherman.Bottom line I put the rod in their hand and let them fish it.Mostly drifting for fluke and fishing for sea bass off the Jersey coast.af

David,I believe that would put the thread carriage on the wrong side of the rod.

I got one too. It`s the generally the same as the Pac-Bay.had it about a year now and love it.Building as a hobby I couldn`t convince myself or the wife that I needed a Renzetti(wish had on though).Nice thing is the Pac-Bay heavy duty chuck bolts right on and makes a vast improvement if you want to turn cork or eva.

As Tom states in Rodmaker(just got it last week the pain was terrible) when doing a reel seat add thread to the area after cutting down on a lathe. This makes a ton of sence due to the drilled in fact that the epoxy only sticks to the thread and not to the blank or reel seat.Question is when you marbleize a reel which I have seen on the photo pages what type of epoxy do you use and how does it

Finally got around to trying it.I have an endless array of pigments available from a connection at a body shop. They spill more in a day than I will need for a year. The stuff is concentrated.Any comments are welcome(Good or bad). The one labled 1st try has a really nice pearl pigment added to the top coat but it did not photograph well(you can see it a little). The second try was just bordom at it

Tom,for it to be Right the last thread should fit perfect.I only had this happen once.Usually I`m packing on one end a burnishing on the other to make the fit proper. There is a formula for layout in the Clemmons Thread art book. The book is informative but may require several readings before you get the jist of how it works.

Daniel,To avoid the nubs what I do is put the pull through loop about 5or 6 turns before the end of the wrap.I then complete the wrap and put the tag end through the loop and pull it until it is tight against the end of the wrap.At this point I cut the tag end off(you must approximate the length)before pulling through completely. This will place the tag end somewhere between the end and where you

You should be able to easily move the guides for the purpose of alignment, however they should not so loose that they will not stay where you want them to be.When a rod bends it needs to change shape(goes from round to oval)to facilitate the bend.If the rod is not allowed to do this due to the thread being too tight the blank can fracture at this point.

I also have purchased several times from Rammrods30 and have always been satisfied(other items not Rayon thread). His shipping is usually 2 days max after payment and pretty close to actual postage(no excessive handeling charge)If only we could get him to sponser here...

I would think that the location of the break would be an indicator. If it were high sticked it would be broken further towards the butt, slammed in the car door somewhere near either end. Also if it broke at a wrap possibility exists the wrap was too tight and the blank could not change shape while bending.I also believe the time in reference to delivery to the customer and when the failure is a

Tom ,I had that happen too.I am in the process of upgrading the chuck but the one I got was defective and I`m impatiently for a replacement. What I used to do was put a nylon zip tie on the chuck jaws to prevent it from loosening.I seem to think it only happens when the rotation is a certain way but I can`t recall what direction that was.

While waiting for my replacement chuck upgrade I decieded to experiment with the rod stands to try to prevent thr rod from jumping out.$2.00 later here is what I came up with.Any comments or suggestions are welcome.

Bill,I would build it custom to the user.set the reel seat in a comfortable position and let that determine the handle size.

Hi all,I`m in the planning stage of a "Bling Bling" rod that will have a gloss black blank,AmTac trichrome and gold guides and a gold Fuji reel seat.I`m wondering what others use for the base grip when flocking. My plan is to use the pile of sorted out cork rings that were not going to get used anyway and fill in the rough spots.Thought is the flock will seal the filler and not allow it

Congrats, thats a great feeling to have your craftsmanship as a sales tool when you have yet to build a reputation.Be sure you know the tax rules and regs as far as Federal Excise tax and local sales tax.yuo dont want to start selling and have the IRS come down on you.In this day and age(around here anyway)people can be vindictive and turn you in either because you are in competition or just to do

It came from Mudhole so I contacted them.I`ll see what they have to say.I was sure this was not normal especially due to the runout in the chuck. Thanks for the response,it eased my mind a bit.
