Ok..I've been reading and re-reading that again. Doesn't make sense.
From what I can tell the overall health and growth of rod buil

That sounds exciting Keven.
Good luck with the new venture and continued success.

I was just looking at a rod I have that telescopes.
When recessed...there is about 22" of the top part inside the bottom part.
When extended...there is about 8" of the top part inside the bottom part.
...plus or minus a half inch. I say that because I'm not 100% if I had installed a plug in the bottom or not.
Just for grins...I was just looking at a blank.

One place to begin is to just take an existing rod you own and do some repairs on it.
You could change out the guides or just refinish them...etc...etc.

Norm again - good stuff.
Thanks for your detailed reply's.

Thanks again Norm...good stuff.
One more thing....could you expound a little bit on the handles?
I realize that will also be all over the board.
I'm specifically looking for length...say from the butt to the middle of the reel seat.
I typically see longer lengths...and many are full cork (not split)..thoughts?

Chris Catignani
You could:
1: Ream if from the other end too.
2: If its cork...you could cut it in half.
If you wanted to make your own...shot me an email and I will send you the materials.
I bought a roll of the this tape sand paper and it like a life time supply.

As for lighter equals more sensitivity...your opening Pandora's box there.

Thanks for the input Norm. I've come to realize the diversity in different crappie rods. The only one I have is a 9' rod for dropping.
I was really looking for a rod to have when someone wants a crappie rod...totally clueless here.
Since its just a rod to sell...not really custom, I'm looking to keep the cost down...somewhat.
I see alot of crappie rods with stainless steel guides, I have made

A carbon fiber handle is more sensitive than cork or eva and will hold up better.
If the rod is for yourself, and you determine where you want the reel. You could cut like a three inch section of carbon for your "reel seat" and use cork for the rest.
Once its taped up..you would never know the carbon was there.
The cork Tennessee handle will initially be a great selection, but over t

I have always just used FlexCoats Rod Building Epoxy...it has a faster setup time and is more viscous than regular finish alone.

Thanks for that David...
Has anyone ever installed (what I would call) "the long" forgrip.
I've seen some rods that have what looks like about a six to eight inch foregrip.
What is striking (pun) about it is that the bottom part is cut away, much like an exposed reel seat.
Obviously...this foregrip is doubling as a handle....just thought is looked unique.

Some of the Veritas rods I've seen had Fuji stainless guides with alconite rings.
...and some come with titanium guides and zirconium rings.

I usually leave the foregrip off, but I recently made a rod with foregrip and a G2 Apex reel seat.
Pfleuger President had to be attached foot in the hood first.

This may not be so obvious...but try to install the reel foot in the hood first.

I'm just gonna throw this out there....
The other day I did repair on an old Fenwick rod build in the 70's.
The reel seat was shimmed with a piece cardboard tubing and epoxy. (not the corrugated)
It was not easy to get off...After some heat the reel seat did release from the epoxy.
The cardboard shim had to be cut off.
I was really impressed with how well this had secured the reel seat an

Rick, What typically is your target with PVD?
Is there anything we, as rodbuilders, should be concerned about?
For example...can a ceramic application chip or cr

Speaking for myself...I'm hardly a pro. But American Tackle does have a good line of products.
You cant fish braid on those Air guides though...

The Microwave Air are good guides...they are called air because they are light.
They are stainless steel guides. No ceramic rings.
