Mark...do a search for "Shakespeare Travel Mate Pack Spinning Rod" (glass rod) (STM66SPT)
I dont think you can find a telescoping UL graphite rod...the inside diameters are too small.
You can certainly make one but would probably be on the heavier side vs just a two piece rod.

I have put the butt guide at 550 - 560 mm. Thats roughly 21" - 22" (inches).
You can use that as an initial starting spot and then as you set your other guides from the tip....you can adjust the butt guide location accordingly.
I will usually use a bit larger butt guide too.... especially with a flipping rod.

I like FlexCoats Rod Builders Epoxy for those times when I do the complete handle assembly on the blank.
Seems like it has a working time of about 15-20 minutes.
When I don't need a lot of time I will use ProPaste.

You can try Hydrogen Peroxide and UV light.
It will act as an oxidizing agent.
The beauty salon places will have a stronger version of H2O2.
Google a white paper called "retrObright".

I've been using a pen made in Japan called Gelly Roll 08.
It wipes off easy and covers well.
You can get it at most art stores.
