That factory in Fresnillo Mexico is a carbon copy to St. Croix's Wisconsin factory , St. Croix is the one wholly responsible for building it , it has the identical machinery and proprietary equipment . Don't know the details how Axiom ever got involved but I guess the partnership is over.

I would agree with Roger except for the fact that Bill is using a tiny spinning reel and 4 pound braid or 4 pound mono, what would be the purpose of moving the butt guide further out with such ridiculously light line and a tiny spinning reel . What you accomplish is giving up more of the blanks lower end power while gaining zero advantages elsewhere . Now , if Bill was going to leave the guide

"Once again, the rod is a jig pole. My perception is that that means it's primary use is for jigging, not casting" Yes, I understand that but despite that fact you have made it clear that you want to turn the rod that is not built for casting into a rod that casts well while retaining the rods current fish fighting ability . To do that you need to change a few things specifically mea

The first thing that needs to be known is what line type and pound test you're using and the second most pertinent question is what size is your butt guide on the rod and what's it's distance from the reels face . Those two questions will determine everything going forward. I want to know why your rod/reel setup is not casting well because it should IF the butt guide is of the appropriate s

"Thank heaven so much scientific effort goes into determining the truth" OK lets approach this in a different manner , what case scenario are you upset about and having trouble with ? There must be a certain rod that you aren't happy with that you bought from someplace that isn't performing up to your satisfaction for some reason . Were you told that a $300.00 fly rod was going

Once again, what rod blank are you interested in and what rod blank are you attempting to compare it to ? My guess is you don't have any issues with rod blank performance. You have mentioned certain rod blanks that you have used in the past and are very happy with them . I think it's time to take notice that you are the ONLY person who repeatedly asks for data that doesn't exist and never ha

Phil loves to ask questions he already knows the answers to . Phil lets talk specifics, what rod blank are you curious about and what rod blank are you attempting to compare it to ? The overwhelming majority of individuals don't require measurable facts the differences are readily apparent to them after fishing different brands and blanks over the years .

You went big time alright , why so extravagant ? I also decided to go all out and picked up an already notched cardboard box & saved a ton by going with my own phone book , dictionary was too pricey .

Some oldies but goodies. There is somebody who did spend a lot of time calculating a ton of rod blanks that were not fly rod blanks but I can't seem to find it right now . It's in the archives somewhere .

It's an amazing accomplishment and an incredible amount of work and dedication is what it takes to have a thriving forum that lasts as long as this one has . One of the most impressive things about it is Tom is busy with many other things outside this forum like his magazine and writing/ updating books . Can't believe he actually has time to fish .

I've had that happen to me and I don't like it one bit either . A buyer should expect for something to be in stock unless it specifically states otherwise , period.

It's amazing how many people come and go throughout our lives many having a profound impact while others a fading memory without rhyme or reason . This is especially true of internet forums . All I know about Mr. Harry is that he was one very intelligent individual and I came to that conclusion based on his many back and fourths with other members on Rodbuilding .org that I found in the archive

You don't need to know anybody Rick , I don't know anybody either and even if I did I would always come to Rodbuilding.org and ask here first . People needing help with answers on rod building questions no matter how basic or complicated is why this forum exists . The people on this site truly look forward to new questions they come here for the sole purpose of helping others . On another not

Don't like them at all Russ , that's why I specifically said I'm one of the few . I do think as I said they're very very good for the money spent , it's hard to find a blank that will perform as well for the amount of money you need to part with to acquire one . Value leader for sure.

Rick , I just read through that article again despite having already read it numerous times already in the past and when I tell you it's by far the easiest most comprehensive article written on spinning guide placement I mean it . If after reading through that you still have questions please speak up and let us know what exactly you're confused about . Did you notice how the reel choice and

Nobody said unpainted blanks are superior to painted blanks but there is a much larger group of people out there than I believe manufacturers realize that much prefer unpainted blanks for good reasons . I'm one of those people but I have to admit that I'm one of the few out there that is not a fan of the Batson blanks even though I thoroughly checked out and actually fished a few Immortal poppin

The Generation IV finish has a much longer working time than regular Threadmaster and it's drying time is considerably longer as well which is not surprising . That's my only beef with it , it's longer working time is great for people who aren't really quick with their finishing techniques but that extended working time is something that I find annoying and builders on a tight schedule will mos

Whenever dealing with 'Spinning' setup's the first thing that needs to be determined is what reel and line type/ diameter you plan on using because that's what determines the guide choices and sizing . Believe it or not the majority of people who ask about guide sizing and types fail to mention the reel and line choices they plan on using . People still throw out recommendations without knowing

Not around mangroves ? Tells you how much I know about fishing in Florida which is essentially ZERO . I was thinking about the 'Snook' not the Bonefish I believe Snook hang out around mangroves if not then I give up . I can't help with the freshwater rods but following this topic to learn about Florida fishing.

"It was mentioned only to illustrate (or try to) that the rod stores and releases energy. All of it provided by the fisherman" Provided by the fisherman IF the fisherman is capable of controlling and effectively utilizing what the rod is fully capable of and in many instances that's not the case . Anglers have had a tendency to lay blame on the actual equipment and not even take i

I have been 100% convinced that Phil has been pulling all our legs from the very beginning with this stuff , there's just no way he could be serious imo . Phil has been fly fishing all his life and has repeatedly said he can put a fly or whatever he happens to attach to the end of his tippet anywhere he wants out to 60 feet or beyond , Sometimes it takes looking back at comments made long ago to

Tom , curious as to why no longer than 7.5 feet ? I myself have fished 7'6" rods but found 8 foot inshore rods to cast far better but you think that's not a good fit ?

Phil , call Sage and tell them that after thoroughly testing with the help of your wife the Sage was only able to cast ' A few measly feet ' as you put it and that you decided to just go with your 'Arm' which obtains superior distance and want a full refund on the Sage.

Yes, that's why I said I'm not familiar with fly fishing stuff which meant all the fly line types and weights and how to find the best match to a particular fly rod . That's very different when compared to what I'm familiar with although line type and diameter has a huge impact on how well a spinning setup will perform it's still very different than how one goes about setting up and getting a

I'm not a fly fisherman and know virtually nothing compared to most on here including yourself when it comes to fly fishing , line weights etc. The first time I heard the word 'Push' a fishing line it baffled me because it's impossible to push a fishing line , even God almighty himself would have to take a step back and contemplate how to pull that one off . Line is pulled by what it's at

I never thought line was pushed I always believed line was 'Pulled' . A bow does not propel an arrow unless the bow string is under a lot of tension from the bending and resistance of the limbs , nock an arrow on an unstrung bow and see if it goes anywhere . In bow fishing a line is attached to the end of the arrow and the weight of the arrow is propelled by the bow string which is under ext
