I always used Fuji in the past but came across Alps. Take a look at them. I now use Alps and Fuji.

I agree with Norm. I have applied 2nd coats even when the finish is still a little tacky and it always dries hard. I always leave my stir stick and what's left of the finish I used on the bench and will periodically check the unused finish with the stir stick to see where the dryness level is.

I have used "too" much heat and it wasn't good. Luckily it was on the tip of a cheap ice rod blank. Just cut the damage off and found a bigger tip top. I also would not use heat now. If you use no heat...it will be impossible to use too much heat.

Thanks Tom...I can understand that and that would bother me also. That isn't what I intended at all. Thanks!

Hi Tom. I tried to give a member a tip on finding an item he was looking for and the word I used was replaced with symbols like this... @#$%&. I was unaware of certain words that must be banned from using.

Amico, I don't know if you've already looked but @#$%& has a lot of "vintage" rods on their site. I was looking last night at old St. Croix rods on @#$%&. There are a lot. I think it would be fun to get ahold of an older rod...strip it down to the blank and rebuild on it. Kind of like building a hotrod out of an old car. Check out @#$%&. Good luck. I am editing this because the word I p

I had heard ( but it has been a couple of years) that St. Croix was still going to make their higher end blanks but turning the other blank production to RODgeeks. I also read more recently that St. Croix bought out RODgeeks interest. At the same time I read that Lamiglas has started to produce some of their blanks and rods in Mexico. I am hoping the RODgeeks Carbon 4 blank is a step above the

Lance...I agree it is a lot better than coming from China. When ever possible I choose USA. Still...Mexico is not USA.

I agree...the Legend is a casting rod. It's a great rod. Back when I bought mine it had a lifetime warranty. I think they have since gotten rid of that warranty. Hope mine is still covered.

The SC V still carries the St. Croix name and is said to be made in USA. It's seems expensive to make a blank in USA, send it to Mexico to paint and then back to new York to RODgeeks? I am not doubting that...just think it has to add price to the product. I read an article on global fly fisher from 2002 and updated in 2016 on the Ultra legend. It mentioned the graphite rating was SCIV on the rod

Thanks Jim. I ordered one of their blanks and am excited to work on it...and especially fish it. I have a Legend Ultra from the late 90's. I had to check but I thought the SC rating was St.Croix's SCIV. I think that was the highest modulus rating back in that day. So I hope the carbon 4 by RODgeeks is the same material.

Thanks. I have loved St. Croix blanks from way back but lost a little love when they started having blanks made out of the U.S. and then sold some of their rights to RODgeeks because I believe they are building blanks in Mexico. I read not long ago that St. Croix bought out RODgeeks share and now are the owners again. Confusing. I am American and still love America.

I am wanting to build a small, light rod and am looking at rodgeeks carbon 4 7' 3wt. Does anybody have experience with rodgeeks blanks? I understand they are basically St. Croix blanks or at least built the same as St. Croix SC IV blanks were. Is this blank a good choice for this build? Grazie!

I like the Flex Coat tip top adhesive...the yellow stick. It seems a bit stronger to me and allegedly stands higher temps.

The spine of a blank and life in general have always confused me. So...if someone who has built on a glass, 4 piece fly blank can tell me...does fiberglass have a spine and is there any tips on placing guides other than in a straight line? I have read (i believe it was on here) that glass has no spine. Thanks.

Thanks for the responses and your opinions!! it's very nice to have access to some of the greatest minds on the planet associated with roadbuilding. I'm not a guy that blows smoke up peoples back sides...I truly mean that. I am very proud of the things I have learned and to be able to put a fishing rod together. Thanks to all and have a great 2021! I look forward to a "normal" year.

I'm another B thread guy. Sometimes A but mostly B. I wouldn't double wrap either. That seems like covering up a mistake. Keep at it, go slow and it will come. My first 8 rods are a lot different than my last 8 rods. good luck.

I've never fished with or built on fiberglass. Mostly what I fish is smaller streams. Fish are usually a pound or smaller. Building on fiberglass is like a new adventure for me. Thanks David

Jarrett, I agree with leaving the blanks as is and selling them...let the new owner choose how to finish them. I love old stuff. Sounds like these blanks are new old stock. personally, I wouldn't be interested in a rod built by someone else on a vintage blank but I'd be really interested in buying vintage blanks so I could build my own rod the way I would want it. Good luck.

I always end up turning to you all when I am tired and confused. I have never built on fiberglass and planned on my first build being a spinning rod but now have changed thinking and want to do a small river fly rod. I have read about Epic, Echo, CTS and NFC. I don't think Echo sells blanks but they seem like a good rod. I am pretty set on building my own since that is a lot of the enjoyment and

I have been wanting to build a light or med. light spinning rod on a 2 piece fiberglass blank but can't find one. I know Lamiglas makes some fiberglass blanks so looked on their site. They had some fly blanks that I would have tried but every one is sold out. Does anybody have an idea where I can look? Do any of you all have feelings or opinions on fiberglass builds? Thanks!

Yup...I've seen how you guys do that with fly guides. Don't know if I am that good or have enough patience. I still might try if I can't find the ring size I want. I did find the correct tube size. Thanks!
