Thanks. I never saw that quote. I had one blank tip so bent that I had to cut it off an inch. I guess I need to live with it or stop buying their clearance blanks. I don't like crooked.

Then I must just have some bad luck. I am only buying the G1000 pro series. They aren't the high end stuff but the msrp on MHX is less than the MSRP on the Lamiglas and all of them have been very straight. Maybe I'm expecting too much also. Is it common to have some bends in the blanks? I think the reg. price of this Lamiglas was $120 but I paid $60. Thanks for your responses.

Hey...has any body had much experience with Lamiglas blanks? I have ordered and built and 4, 2 piece spin blanks and every one has been crooked. So crooked that they are hard to apply finish because of the bend. I thought I'd try one more because they were marked down and then 20% more off. It came today and the tip has a healthy permanent bend in it. Is this normal? I just finished a North Forks

Interesting...I've never heard the color preserver comment. After reading the different techniques it seems people have their own way. I'm going to try the color preserver on an old rod. I think one of my biggest issues is that I try too hard. thanks for the comment!

I also do 3 coats almost always. I don't have an issue with bubbles. Even while applying...no bubbles. If there is a bubble or two they pop when I heat them with a gun. I also use a brush. Thanks!

Thanks Norm. I already learned my lesson on too much. I use thin coats. I might be too thin after watching the flex coat video. All of my guide wraps turn out good after finishing, it's just the long runs. I apply it horizontally...make sure the blank is all covered and then use a heat gun only briefly. That seems to thin the epoxy and it smooths some. Thanks again! I really appreciate you all s

thanks Phil. I will need to try that on an old rod before I attempt it on a new build. You are probably a lot better builder than I am. My turner is only 18RPM but is a clutch and that part has helped me but I am thinking I need more rpm's.

Buongiorno Fratelli! I always have trouble getting a totally smooth, non wavy finish on longer runs when applying finish over my decals or labels on my builds. Makes me crazy! Any tips? They do look better since going horizontally. It could be I am just not good or I am trying to be too good. Help? Thanks!

222. Re: Rodgeeks blanks
Thanks Ed. I have decided to order one as soon as they open back up. As far as eccentricity goes (I had to look that definition up) Lamiglas are the all time worst for bends in my experience. MHX have been good but the least eccentric was the NFC I just finished. I will b e happy to get back going in life. Thanks again!

Thanks Michael! The price is right too! Now I just need to wait for them to open up again. I believe safety before rod building. Every body be smart and stay safe and healthy!

Thank you Charles!! Nice to hear from somebody that has built and used RODgeeks blanks. I had heard the info you gave me but I am always a little hesitant. When they are open for business again I will buy me one and get to work on it. Thanks!

226. Rodgeeks blanks
I'm an older guy and don't like change so I haven't wanted to fish with or build on a one piece rod. However, I think I might be changing. I have always been a St. Croix fan. I was not happy when they started having another company take over most of their blank building. I talked with a couple people recently and was told that St. Croix now bought out RODgeeks but is keeping the name and factory

Yup! Sorry...was on other topics for some time. I very much appreciate all of you. I haven't been here long but have read your posts for years when I have a question. It seems to be a brotherhood and I like that. I will look into the suggestions. I already did check out some brands...more expensive than a really good CF blank. I don't want that. I want to find a 50-75 buck blank to do a first fib

Great question and topic!! I am a simple sentimental guy. Some of my most prized possessions are my Pa's Hunting knife, My grandpas screwdriver (at least 100 years old) and other family posessions my hard working Italian family had. So when I build a rod I think ahead 30-40+ years when my kids, grandkids or great grandkids hopefully enjoy these rods and are proud of them. Thanks for the question!

This was a 16 on a light blank. I maybe messed something up or got something wrong. Sorry to take away the topic from the original question. Just make sure your reel will fit in the seat before you mount it. I do that now for sure.

I can tighten the reel seat down all the way...just can't open it wide enough to allow most reels to fit in.

Don't know about the pmts but I built a rod and used the fuji tvs with the hidden thread and I can't fit many reels in the seat. None of my Pfluegers fit...not even the small 25's. The hidden thread cover won't allow the rear seat to wind back far enough. I've tried to see if I did something wrong but I've done many spin rods and almost always use Fiji seats. I just recently started using some Al

OH, OH....I'd hate to be Kevin. I have to say that I've ordered from them half a dozen times and things were all correct and it shipped out quick. I'm knocking on wood. But...no probs here.

234. Re: Fixing epoxy
I have always used brushers...the brushes from flex coat. What is and application tool? I need to learn that. What I did learn long ago is "just walk away". I don't think any body is perfect. If I see I am getting into a little bit of a mess...I walk away and let it dray and apply another coat to straighten things out.

Thanks Mark! As I said, I have built on and fished with Lamiglas and like it but am not yet finished with the NFC. Both 7' light, 2 piece so I should be able to do a comparison.

OK....that's something I wanted to hear. I don't like the idea change of 4 piece fly rods or one piece spin rods. I don't think I am good enough to tell the difference in feel in a one or two piece rod. And...I hate transporting rods hanging out my car window. However, I do like to know how people liked a certain rod and the quality of manufacturing of blanks. Puts me a little further ahead in i

I think maybe you all thought I was questioning whether or not NFC and Lamiglas is the same blank. That wasn't my thinking. I have read on here posts from people asking who makes who's rods out of what companies blanks. An example...I have a couple Cabelas fish eagle rods. I think they are pretty good every day rods for $69 and sometimes $59. I couldn't build the same rod for that price...not eve

Hi! Hope you all are healthy and safe! I want to know what you all think of North Forks Composites IM spin blanks. I am almost finished on a build on a 7' light. I have built on Lamiglas in the past and I think the North Forks is very similar in appearance and taper. The load feels similar. They also come from the same city. Any comments? Thanks

Hi, I have heard people talk of building on fiberglass. I am considering trying a spinning build on fiberglass but have no idea of what is good. I like to put good components on the rods I build so I don't want a cheapo blanks. Can any body direct me to a quality fiberglass blank? Also...what are your opinions of fiberglass spinning rods. I'm in Utah and almost always fish the different trout spe
