This blank is fiberglass and has a very extreme taper. I don't have a digital micrometer but measured with my cheapo mic. It is just barely over 1mm so I guessed 1.1. This tip is very small. I cut some off the back because it came 36". The bend in the blank only goes down about 6-8". It definitely will be more sensitive than any ice rod I have now. I bought these blanks a couple years a

I am looking to build an ice rod on a thin noodle blank. The tip measures 1.1mm. Does any body make a top that small with a larger ring size. I have had these blanks for a couple of years but I've hesitated building because of the tip size and also knowing it will be hard wrapping a rod tip that really is like a noodle. Hope all of you and your loved ones are staying healthy and safe.

I only use 16's on light rods. !7 is only a little beefier (in my opinion) in looks and feel. I agree with other commenters on even going 18 or larger. Maybe more balance.

I decided to take a chance and bought some flex coat CP. I did the ferrule wrap with 2 coats and then finished it. It turned out real nice. The color changed just slightly but is still pretty bright and acceptable. I am using a bright red color thread and it went to a dark red but looks even better. I will see how the rest goes now. I have all the wraps done and with 2 coats of CP. Will finish th

I also like winding checks. It gives the rod some more added character. Personally...I would never build a rod without a winding check. Everybody is always concerned about a little extra weight and I don't understand that. How much weight does a WC add to a rod? And is that extra weight going to cause more fatigue on the fisherman or what is the issue? I can understand professional cyclists want

I use a heat gun used for painting. Very easy to use and works perfect. Never have had any issue.

That's how I have always placed them....foot towards the butt. Never saw them the other way. Thanks.

I buy my aluminum rod tubes from a guy in Colorado...Ron Cilli. He is self employed and does a lot of tubes and socks and other fishing stuff. I think if you google Landmark components you will find him. Very good product and fair priced.

Ok...that was my worry. I had heard from an employee of a well known fishing store that color preserver made it harder to get a good finish on the wraps. Maybe that is exactly what he was talking about. That was a few years back so I have totally stayed away. I will look for some of the U40 and do a test. Thanks again!

Hi...I'm back for more free, professional information. Hope you all don't get annoyed by my questions....I'm learning. I have wrapped a rod with a real good-looking red and inlayed with silver. It looks nice how it is. I just finished a rod with the same combo and when I applied the finish, of course the red went dark...almost a wine color. Still looks good but I now want to keep the red. I have

I figured there has got to be some physics involved with it...the line is sliding on the opposite area of the guide on a casting rod vs a spinning rod. I will just stick with 8 guides on this 6' 6" stick. Thanks! you all stay safe and sane. I just keep building rods to keep me busy. My wife is starting to get a little annoyed when she looks at the credit card statement!

OK...here's a question...what would possibly be the results of using the spacing recommendation of a casting build on a spinning build of the same length? I have nine Fuji SIC guides. Sizes 25,16,10,8,6,6,6,6,6 then the tip top. I haven't been able to find a spacing rec. for spinning rod with 9 guides. I don't fish or build casting rods but know the guides run on top of the blank. Comments?

Thanks Tom! I have generally used 8 guides but MHX has a 10 guide recommendation on their blanks. I have built on one North Forks blank. They recommended 6 guides and I used 8 plus the tip top. I like the load with 8.

Hi...hope you all are healthy and happy and staying safe! I have a question about guide spacing...more guides vs less guides on a spinning rod. What is the benefit, if any of using more guides? I read some recommendations where they recommend 6 guides and others 10 guides. I am just starting a build on a North Forks IM 2 piece spinning blanks and they recommend 6 guides. I'm not necessarily the

I'd like to pay 30X's less for the same blank. Fill me in on which blanks they are. I don't have the money to buy top price blanks. I don't know I am good enough to tell the difference any way. The best fly rod I own is a St. Croix Legend. I have built on and fished with a $99 MHX fly blank and I don't notice enough of a difference to even mention. One made in USA and the other offshore. I do lik

Hi. Sorry to post again but I really appreciate and value your knowledge and opinions. I want to build a shorter ( 6-6' 6") light spinning rod for some of the smaller streams here in Utah. Looking at North forks IM and Rodgeeks carbon 4. I don't even know if they are apples to apples but those are the two I have been looking at. I have built on. North Forks and like that rod and the company.

I totally agree with Ben! I have messed up and looked at the unfinished rod for a week trying to convince myself to move on but in the end took things apart and did it the way I'd be happy with. Plus...removing and redoing will give you some added experience. I've taken off finished wraps because I didn't like them. Good luck!

I'm a traditional old guy. I was raised fishing and hunting and have great memories of that as a child. It was always cork back then and I still prefer it....maybe in a way to honor my Pa who loved and respected the outdoors and wildlife. I don't think I will ever build on anything else. I especially don't like the black foam type handles. It appears cheap and cheesy to me. Also...I don't build r
