What assortment of guides, tip-tops or other would you recommend to have on-hand for rod repairs to avoid lag time of having to order and wait for shipping when doing repair work for someone? Is there a certain set of parts that would help hit a 60-75% sweet spot? What’s the best way to go about building up a repair parts inventory?

I did some searching but came up “blank” (pun intended) I have some blanks I need spray paint and wanted to knock number out at once so got to thinking about what I could use to hold the blank upright - and then it also crossed over to thinking about how to store blanks vertically vs leaning against the wall or having to have a long talk space for them on a rack Was in the sporting good st

A rod drying cabinet with integrated heating could help in a garage situation. I build this recently for my workstation in my basement which, while climate controlled, stays on the cool side

No more excuses.... finally finished my drying cabinet tonight - so no more excuses not to get busy wrapping some rods.... Bench features an ALPS wrapper mounted to an "X-Y" carriage to allow sliding it forward/back and then also left-right along the bench Drying cabinet features four 30 rpm 12V DC motors - each with their own variable speed control & power control; LED lights

I’ve been making rod socks - can do them for something in the $3-$4 ea range depending on size & length of reel. Use the expanding wire loom, a bit of heat shrink to seal the top, and then curl the bottom in on itself and hit with some heat. I typically add some elastic cord for a small hanging loop at the top and the. Cord and a spring button at the bottom where it’s folded over itself to

Thanks Roger & Mark. Mark - I've got the pics of your cabinet saved away on my phone for creative derivative inspiration. Trying to avoid a fan for concern of dust entry and such - though guess could be one just moving air inside the box itself... Appreciate the ideas on various light options as well - was planning on some LED strips on a switch for light - yeah - then why not just u

Getting ready to build a rod drying cabinet as my basement workshop stays low 60’s most of the time and there is a HVAC vent right over the bench Still sorting out dimensions for a 4 rod cabinet but thinking 18” y’all and 10-12” deep - by 10’ long or so - will hang on slatwall above the bench and have a plexiglass or Lexan front Trying to decide on a heat source. Don’t want to go with reg

First rate work Mark.... I’m considering a multi-rod box that can hang from slatboard on the wall - would allow it to be taken down if needed My bench in in a finished basement which stays on the cool side around 63-65 - and an air vent is right over the bench which I know will distribute dust and dog hair - so looking to make something....

Good point Russell. Forgot about that totally. Perhaps not as high quality as Boca bearings but most likely good enough. Love my Avet’s....

Nope - right handed. I’ve considered flipping the track to move the carriage to the back side but then may need to reverse the motor. May tackle that later when with a dc motor upgrade. I had thought about the ol’ standby two-pin trailer connector..... given it won’t be plugged and unplugged much it would do the trick

In in good old North Carolina - I think it is less a northern/Southern Hemisphere thing as it is an Apple / PC thing - lol...... noticed that when I uploaded the pics here it showed the thumbnail upside down, but when I looked at it the pic was correct - weird.... I guess I no longer have any excuses for not getting going on wrapping some rods - well other than I'm still waiting on some reel seats which should hopefully arrive tomorrow.... Thanks for the inspiration from some here and elsewhere on the sliding carriage for the wrapper - I combined the ideas of the left-right, but also for a front-back to create an X-Y carriage - can push it back out of t

There is a newer style Tekota that looks more like a modern bass casting reel - then the older style that is a traditional round reel - I’ve got the round at hand if that’s what he has and you need some measurements

I’ve covered a bunch of of rods in the x-flock shrink - I cut target length and it’s not shrunk enough over length to notice - just make sure when you are heating it to do so from one end, turning the rod so it shrinks evenly and then work your way down the rod

Thanks Roger - this reconciles things I’ve run across on changing the polarity of the wires to the motor coil itself but then it may having issues with these type motors Looks like it’s a DC motor conversion to be done if I want the reverse..... just need to sort out the right parts ;)

Is there any problem in reversing the direction on the sewing machine type motors used on the ALPS wrapper by reversing polarity on the motor feed? I've tried to dig up the answer which I'm sure is in the archives here somewhere but have not hit on it - I did find a pointer in a past post on to how to wire a DPDT rocker switch which would be a very clean way to do so - as long as it does not ca
