As ive said before, the wealth of knowledge is staggering in my opinion.. Its a sad day when a hobby, or trade, becomes nearly extinct due to kept secrets.. As i like to say, your only as good as the information given.. I hope no one thinks my questioning is to conflict with valid suggestions, its simply becouse i want to know as much as possible about something before jumping in.. I tend to over

I was contemplating perma gloss.. Ive never use it.. But have read some people haveing trouble using it.. Usually everyone says "theres a learning curve with it," that kinda worries me... I dont have a spare blank to test on... I do like the idea of lighter.. With the apparent learning curve, Is perma gloss a better choice?

Ive looked.. That was my plan originally.. But coumd only find a foregrip that matched fairly close.. Then again for the rear grip i coukd always just get a Straight no taper premade grip and shape it by hand.. It would take time.. But would probably work

The primary goal is for it to be a fuctional rod.. That may change once i get into it and see currently unforseen damage.. As for the cork.. Ive honestly never turned cork, i have the ability to do so.. My brother does have a 10" wood lathe at my disposal, but i have no idea how to setup a jig for turning.. And i cant currently afford to purchase one.. And when i say he has a lathe, i me

Ok, so im doing a restoration on a cabelas rod.. Now before you guys start going off about just buying a new blank and skipping all this work, epecially since its not a very expensive rod, (atleast i assume it isnt, there isnt a model number) im doing it. It was my grandfathers... (for all who know my posts, its a diffrent rod then discussed in previous post) It is a Cabelas Fish Eagle Graphi

Hey guys, im building a ultralight, im going with a exposed blank reel seat with carbon fiber grips.. Ill be using cfx pre made carbon grips.. My brother had a rod with a exposed reel seat and i love it, its setup uplocking, the threads are directly onto the blank, with the rear attached to the cork, align the 2 seat parts, slip the rear up the threads so far, and it aligns itself and the thr

For the record, i can do a 100' cast and present a large dry within a 1 1/2' target.. Gently.. Obviously on a very still day, and not my 4wt.. Rather my 8wt. Master your triple haul, you'll be surprised at what you can achive with practice.. The point behind the question isnt a matter of being able to preform better on the water, it an excerise in knowledge.. Your only as good as the information

That makes sence... Whats odd is my cortland.. cheap, nothing fancy rod, cast 15-25 feet of 4wt. Perfect for me.. (Thats the rod with 4.9 ERN) and my buddy has an orvis clearwater 4 wt, unfortunatly i havent preformed a ccs on it yet, id like to.. Feels like your about to snap the fly on every load.. I dont like his at all.. I think the 4 wt line is too light for his rod.. Contraversy, he hates m

Hi guys, been crazy with vehicle issues.. Sorry i havent been on.. Heres the question.. My one fly rid has a ERN of 4.90.. Does that mean it would cast a 5wt line better then the current 4 wt thats on it? It is rated 4-5wt.. Just curious, ive read that section of the ccs about 80 times now.. And still am having an issue grasping it..

I fully get that the rod will never be the same.. But you think it will be a noticable enough diffrence to justify puting her back on the operating table? I know that question is about as answerable as asking you what this rash is on my arm.. Without seeing it first hand its a impossible auestion to answer.. Im nist asking suggested opinions.. (I do not have a rash on my arm btw)

Inchs.. Not feet. Im kind of blown away by the amount it changed the entire dynamics of the rod.. I knew i would be sacrificing a little power and action.. But its significantly more then i expected.. I removed the tip top off of a doner rod cleanly..then removed the tip top off the tica, the tip of the rod was twisted and splintered.. I removed 1 and a half inchs of material.. So that was ab

Why guys, so.., i found my poor tica with a bent tip top.. As in the tip top was on about a 45° angle.. This is what i get for letting soneone borrow a rod.. Its a tica ultralight rod.. 5'6" i removed the tip top and the entire tip was completly shattered and splintered inside the pipe, to the point it next to fell off... I (as cleanly as possible) used my hacksaw to remove the top 1 1/2..

Lmao.. That'll be the day... See some guy using a suppository on a treble... Lol I did a search on wd-40 after all this back and forth.. And acording to wiki, it is petroleum based.. Wiki isnt always accurate. however, i will never use it again based on the possibility.. Simple green was designed for the aircraft field.. Warning on that though.. It needs to be flushed heavily with water..

Im blind.. I cant see past 2 1/2 feet with out my perscriptions on.. So i got a pair of perscription polarized shades now.. And they are so so.. I know what you mean about 20$ and under being sub par.. But.. And Again, i wear glasses so this applies to someone who already has frames on thier head.. Walmart has those spinny things usually by the jewlery department, they have clip-on polarized.. Th

Ok, so the majority of people who dont properly store there rods.. Sorry to put a percentage on it.. Or a specific location.. Thank you phil.. I was under the impression it was a fish oil base, not petroleum.. As for what to protect against? Warping, although that boils down to storage issues, mice storage issues, oxidation storage issues.. obsolescence.. Probably not storage issues... H

Im not saying to use it as a attractant.. I would never... I was simply stating the fact that if ypu get some on your guides its not like pouring purfume on your reel.. The fish wont be deterred.. Ive heard of people having less luck after using a product like lemon pledge.. I guess fish dont care for the smell of lemons.. I use it on the rod.. And the guides, as a cleaner... Then wipe it away..

Tom- i know its a solvent, the specific kind im talking about is with silicone.. For the record guys.. I do NOT store my rods in such a manner.. This is for general discussion, and to possibly disporove the myth of some products vs. Others for best results... Donald- thankfully i havent had to deal with silicone contamination yet.. But after the rods finished, does contamination really com

So your saying that a fiberglass rod for example, isnt going to benifit from any form of protective coating? I mean i guess i have to agree.. Vehicles are exposed to extreme hot and cold conditions.. And the panels are abused way more then a rod would hopefully ever be.. After years of exposure brittleness occurs.. Ok, lets restate the original question, for the adverage fisher person who sto

Not necessarily for storage, but cleaning as well.. I heard everything from pledge to a thin coat of 3-2-1 oil.. (No ive never put oil on my rods) pledge seems like it would put a bice shine.. Possibly protect the blank material, but also seems lime it would leave a residue... I never put pledge on my rods.. Its for wood.. Not composites.. Atleast thats how i feel about it.. What i have used is W

I learned that trick doing roofing and sideing.. Vynl siding explodes if you dont turn the blade around.. Also after you cut pvc piping the best way to debur it is with a razor blade held at a 45° angle, dont cut into the pipe, pull the blade away from the cutting edge.. Works beautifully.. Learned that doing underground work as a high voltage electrician.. Last thing you want while pulling wire
