This isnt a question about how to do inlays, but rather a question on feathers i guess... Theres enough information on how to do it out there already.. I havent tried yet.. So and im a bit limited on experimentation time with this particular build, i do plan on trying it on my test rod first though.. But if what im asking isnt really something thats practical to accomplish i wont waste the tim

Im fairly sure He was refering to the airwaves.. Not the microwaves.. Ive built 3 rods with the microwave system.. And i vouch for them.. Never tried the airwaves though.. They utalize the microwave technology, but dont have an insert.. They say they are the lightest guides on the market.. But at what cost? I know price is nothing to go by, but the microwave system is around 45$ for a set. Where

If it wasnt a present, i would get quite alot more together... I think im going to go with the St. Croix setup... I was honestly leaning towards MHX.. But... Ive wanted a St. For awhile.. Although.. I think im going to throw microwaves on... I just cant get away from how good they are... Thanks guys.. Seth.. Sound choice.. You win.. well, my respect lol may not be worth much, but its something..

*picking the mic back up off the floor.. Lightly brushing the head off...* Ahem.. We have a second contestant.. Strong build.. Strong build... I like the lack of foregrip.. But can the blank bet the mighty, uh.. Mini.. hmmm.. That not quite right.. Lets see... The... ... Well, the st. Croix? Time will tell folks... Time will tell... Carbon fiber is cool.. -One of my favorite spots

Tell ya what... Lets change the rules a little.. Brauden the spectrum a little.. Honestly.. Im not sure you can beat that blank... How about.. -up to 7' -ultralight or light (keep in mind its small stream, panfish and trout) -anything but a 1 piece

Looks like we have a contestant! Will anyone challenge?? Btw... Mudhole has tax included in the price per item, and over $100 ships for free.. Could this be the game changer? Will our sole contestant fall from glory?! Stay tuned.... (This is fun isnt it?)

Alright.. Im a fan of mhx, but have an open mind.. Although i never held one, a rainshadow is tempting.. Heres what i want from you guys.. - 2 piece, dealers choice.. (Ultralight of coarse) length not exceeding 6'6" - reel seat, i have aquired a couple split reel seats.. (Thank you again ) Im going to hold onto them for a future pla

Well.. Looks aren't everything... Functionality is more important... Im acually puting that project on hold.. I have 9 rods to work on that appeared today.. Cool and yet ironic that my wife got me a blue daiwa 212 ACG 6 1/2' rod made in the USA today on a whim.. Needs alot of work.. But its basically the red daiwas brother i just finished.. Ill get with you guys when the build is a go 100%

Well, what is your perfect super light ultralight setup? The plan here is to go as light as possible.. No bigger then 6'6" your target fish are extremly skitish 4"-6" brook and native trout on a stream no wider then 13' and the deepest hole in the area is maybe 3 1/2' deep during heavy flow.. giant slabs of shale, verticle and horizontal so the fish have lots of places to hide, sma

When i say minimalist i mean minimalist.. I honestly dont even want to put a split seat on it.. If i could figure out a way to put the reel directly onto the blank with nothing, but still be able to remlve it, i would.. I really dont want any grips at all.. Or atleast as little as possible.. I threw the idea around of dipping the butt in rubber to create a slight teardrop buttcap, just enough to

Honestly guys i was contemplating a plate seat.. But im pretty sure they are waaay to wide for such a small area.. My brother has a Fenwick HMX with a split seat... I kind of like it.... I wouldnt put it on a river rod.. But for a quick visit to my local stream it would be awesome..

Hey guys, i appreciate the suggestions, but I'm not dead set on either component.. I could look into other blanks.. With a slightly larger ID.. The style of that minima reel seat is what im going after.. Not that bubble look like the fuji SKSS seat... My mind is open for suggestions on both.. Im looking to make one the way they were designed to work, ive never installed a split seat so maybe putt

Ok, so im working on building a ultra light.. Looking at the MHX S781-2, im kinda digging the minima split reel seat.. Im going minimalist on this build, but ive never done a split seat before.. Im planing on having the seat at 10, and 12 inchs from the butt... That measures 7.30 mm and 7.13 mm, now i know when you install spit seats they need to be fairly tight to the blanks OD, the smallest min

Mhx blanks are very nice in my opinion.. But the power seems to run on the heavier side.. If you go by the CCS system my medium extra fast popping rod has a lifting power of 490grams (might be 480, im not home to look in my book) awesome blank though..

No one has said anything about the microwave guides.. So ill chime in for fun.. If you have never used them before, they are in my opinion icredible.. Go with them.. They are lightweight, but.. They might spoil you.. The casting is so smooth, silent, and it increases accuracy as advertised in my opinion.. Place the first 3 according to the ditections, do the rest of the guides in static placeme

Just an update... For the record... Sanding without a power wrapper isnt fun... I used my dryer... Took 2 hrs.. For the 2 worst wraps... Sooo.. 3 inchs of thread.. Granted my lowest in stock in 600 grit.. I reapplied epoxy to those 2 spots.. And im glad i did.. I think my issue was too much heat, and i did use as little epoxy as possible.. Rods level.. See what it looks like when i get up

Oh it most Definatly is.. Does anyone have a suggestion on how to smooth out the work? Will applying a 4th coat even be worth it? Id hate to strip it all off.. But im giving my buddy the option.. And if hes not happy with it, ill strip it...

Thank you.. I was searching for it.. Lol After a third coat, and shaving high spots, the tip top looks better, the top half is ok.. The furrule wrap, stripper and butt wrap are very lumpy.. I told my buddy im done with it.. All sections of the rod are leveled, my wrapper says its a 9rpm but i timed the revolutions.. It 5.2 sec./turn so its really a 11.2rpm motor.. Lol.. Applying time was 9 min

Alright.. So, got home from work.. The guides looks good.. The tip top has a bit to much finish for sure.. The butt section is wavy.. Not horrible, but not glass.. Ill shave the excess off the tip top.. Add a third coat? As thin as physically possible...

I dont see why it would be a problem.. I have excellent thread control from tying flies.. Thats acually one of the most important things in fly tying.. Thread control.. You can do anything as long as you control your tention, spacing. And placment.. So i should just use my bodkin i guess lol
