I would personally go out and use the rod you built and see how it works out for you before deciding

Never used an arbor but thats probably because i build surf rods which have much more substantial butt sections which makes it easy to get the seats solidly snug without them . I suppose arbors would be pretty much standard fare for most everything other than surf and heavier duty rods.

The below might help , a data base of ice fishing blanks. How To: Profiling Ice Rod Blanks Profiling ice rod blanks is the process of charting the blank’s diameter per every inch of the blank’s length. Gathering this information provides a quantitative means to compare ice rod blanks based on their dimensions which directly relates to strength/stiffness per inch of blank length. In other wo

I am NOT a fly guy so i have no recommendations on fly gear but i do have a lot of experience regarding general equipment choices , your comment " I used the rod a few times and so far it remains a virgin in terms of landing fish. Now my question is: does it make sense to buy an Etermity 2 blank and build a rod on it instead" struck me. I am a die hard surf fisherman and have fish

After reading the OP's first post slowing down the blank isn't what he wants , he wants to avoid all unnecessary weight and wants ideas on best guide placement . He needs to figure out what reel , what line and the reels ideal location based on his personal preferences and comfort level . I don't know how other people do it but i like to finish the bottom part of the rod first meaning reel sea

+ 1 on what Bill Hickey said above regarding ferrule wraps and guide placement . I used to wrap ferrules but not anymore , many manufacturers say there is zero need for it these days and all it does is add unnecessary weight . Many still insist on doing it but after i was told that their ferrules would be replaced under warranty is they ever cracked by CTS and St. Croix i have avoided wrapping

Well we already know you're pairing this rod with a Akios 651 so get a feel where you want it positioned on the blank by going through the casting motions and then measure the diameter of the blank at the spot where you want the reel and order a reel seat that will fit well , the handle length will fall into place by itself at the time when everything feels just right and you know where the reel

No previous experience with that particular blank but thats fine because it's not necessary for people to be ultimately familiar with that specific blank , you provided whats needed for people to give you recommendations with the specs . A ten footer rated ML with a 2-4 oz lure range . Pretty standard surf rod specs not difficult at all . Handle spacing is dependent on your comfort and persona

Phil i'm not talking about what you know best " Fly rods" , thats a whole different ballgame that i DO NOT have experience in. When someone says having a "Balanced" outfit that just means wherever the rods owner chooses to hold the rod for their individual best comfort the rod does not feel overly tip heavy and does not feel overly bottom heavy it should feel as they say &quo

There are no charts Phil , having experience with many different rods & rod lengths and reels & reel types is the best education on what balances well . I am a surf guy and have used many surf rod types and lengths and matching the right reel is paramount for optimum performance , surf rods in the most popular lengths 9 feet to 11 feet balance exceptionally well with reel sizes in th

Most are very familiar with Jason Brunner and how active he has been at the ICRBE over the years , he called the ICRBE the "Superbowl" of custom rod building shows , just somewhat surprised that St. Croix has chosen to NOT keep their sponsorship active ( Don't necessarily buy into they must of forgot ) excuse and that St. Croix rods has not had a booth at the ICRBE last year and will

Rod Geeks was listed as being a vendor when the 2019 list first came out , now that i look at the updated list i see they're not . It's either an oversight or they have decided to skip it in favor of other LESS distinguished shows as i see St. Croix Rods has preferred to do again this year .

Handle length can be tricky , you don't want to glue the reel seat in place until you are absolutely certain what your ideal handle length is and the best way to do that is by taking the blank and simulating where your hands naturally fall when you go through the casting motions . Guessing is a bad idea as is just doing what everybody else prefers to do . The weight being thrown is also imp

Wow, if it's true that the hours are 9-3:00 pm thats very telling and not in a good way . Every company i have ever worked for has made it mandatory to work overtime or hire's more people to make sure to fulfill customer demands , guess the customer DOES NOT come first with NFC if those hours are legit . Maybe they feel like since the customers are always raving about the end product they will

If ultimate protection is what you want nothing beats Permagloss imo , best thing about it is that it's a very hard durable coating while adding less weight when compared to automotive type paints seen on blanks these days . Achieving a beautiful smooth and even finish is easy with permagloss while traditional paint is not nearly as easy and the last thing you want to do is apply multiple coats

Gary set the standard and is still pushing rod tech to it's limits . When such huge discounts are offered on NFC blanks it makes it very difficult for other rod companies to compete because other companies best blanks are selling for considerably more money than what the best blanks from NFC are selling for .
