782. Re: surf rod build
What you want is probably a hybrid type surf rod which casts well when needed but will also be stout enough to be able to horse big fish away from wrapping you up in the pilings and breaking you off. An eight to nine foot blank in medium heavy power ratings is ideal for this type work . The extra length gives you a better chance of keeping a strong fish away from the pilings and breaking you of

I think people need to accept that if you order blanks from NFC the wait may end up waiting more along the lines of waiting for a blank from CTS than a blank manufacturer located in the United States and know that before you order . When i have ordered CTS blanks from Herb L i just forget about the wait altogether and understand that i should expect them in the range of 6 weeks but the point is

Sounds like this is one of Rogers custom setups that does not come with most rod wrappers available for purchase today as a stock unit , if all the people who commented about having power wrappers but still preferring to wrap by hand had Rogers setup maybe they would all prefer to wrap under power .

You can get S Glass blanks in the raw carbon color ? I got the raw carbon finish when i bought the RodGeeks 8 and 9 footers but those are actually made out of carbon didn't know glass rods were of

I don't think you will find any current models in the Rod Geeks lineup that will be close to how the older St. Croix SC 1 glass blanks were . The S glass used these days are not only lighter but more responsive as well but as you mentioned calling Rod Geeks would be the smart thing to do .
Good luck

I only build rods for myself so a power wrapper is NOT something i am interested in . If i built rods on a regular basis throughout the year i think it would be a wise purchase especially if you deal with grip shaping , i never deal with grip shaping as i only build surf rods.
The wraps on my surf rods are also exceedingly short , around an 1/8th of an inch at the start of wrapping up the gu

Now we're talking , you hear that Luke , 10 blanks shipped for a nickel , even i can't argue when shipping is a nickel . Thats what i call reasonable. In all seriousness most people don't buy more tha

I'm with you 100% on that one , iv'e scrapped a ton of potential purchases due to the added shipping cost not just on blanks but components also , i'm on a fixed income so every dollar is a big deal to me.

David makes a great point about those NFC Delta blanks since people rave about them and they're priced to sell right now , could be an ideal choice.

The 9 foot RodGeeks surf blank i built rated 1-4 oz can whip 4 oz out of sight with power so just be aware not all rods ratings are accurate , most blanks like David said actually do drop off sharply in performance at the low and high end of their listed ratings but not all . I have a CTS rated 2-4 and it barely loads on anything less than 4 oz but thats not all that common .

Look for reviews on St. Croix's S Glass blanks and you can believe the Rodgeeks blanks will be essentially the same except for their considerably lower price. I bought two Rodgeeks blanks awhile back and can confirm they are identical in every way to St. Croixs models with the exception of color options and price.

Here you go Jeremy , i love the specs on the 8 and 9 foot models , the listed weights of the blanks are impressive in regard to the the weights they're intended to throw, (Lure ratings) the problem is very little feedback on these since they're so new .

Forgot to add that many have made the mistake of ordering a Rodgeeks or St. Croix blank , ( Virtually same thing) in the MMF2 when they really wanted the moderate action model which is the MM2 designation and there is a HUGE difference in feel and their inherent characteristics between them .
I always preferred the MMF rated models which means Medium power Moderate Fast action and if you see

If the outer edges are showing through how about removing the edges entirely by carefully cutting away the edges and just leaving the decal before you apply it , a fresh coat of epoxy before the decal in laid down is recommended by virtually all who have experience with this stuff.

In the $100.00 price range Rodgeeks has two 9 foot surf rods priced at $105.00 and i can tell you from first hand experience they're as light as a feather and cast into the next time zone.

Most of my rods don't have any winding check , i prefer to use shrink tubing that i shrink down and it covers about 1/4 of the end of the top of the real seat & extends upwards about 6 to 8 inches but i'm an oddball so keep that in mind.

All my surf rods have been 70/30 splits from St. Croix and they have been outstanding, however i decided to purchase some surf blanks from CTS and the ones i had interest in were 50/50 splits and i was concerned how they would feel , fish and cast .
After very extensive testing in a variety of conditions i have found them to be truly outstanding as well and i honestly could not find any nega
