I didn't mention anything about blank models , none of the RodGeeks blanks have the same model numbers as the St. Croix blanks , i left him a link if he wants to ask RodGeeks directly . Some are virtually identical though with the model #'s being the only difference.

The point i was trying to make was DON'T attempt to satisfy your curiosity on a build that is almost finished and up to that point has turned out near perfect you're asking for trouble lol. I recommend experimenting on something other than your best work .

I just found the very in depth article published by a popular Fly Fishing magazine that has a complete walk through with detailed images of St. Croix's factory in Fresnillo Mexico with Jeff , Paul and Dave Schluter pictured talking about the details , they explain that it's an exact replica of the Wisconsin location with the same Quality Control standards . This article came out in a Gear Guide

You sure the Mojo Bass are SC III material , they used to all be SC II like most other Mojo labeled rods. Anyways RodGeeks blanks are made in St. Croix's Fresnillo Mexico facility which St. Croix built and constructed from the ground up to mimic St. Croixs Park Falls factory , all equipment from the CNC machinery right down to St. Croix's proprietary rod testing equipment is exactly the same as

Figuring out how to weigh accurately is not the issue , the issue is many do not own scales to weigh stuff with and i would highly doubt most will be running out to purchase one for this purpose alone . That being said a good scale is a worthwhile purchase and a good percentage of rod builders do own them .

One of the most asked questions ever , hopefully a few of the below links will help but if you want a straight answer here's what Tom Kirkman himself says : They're all excellent and there is no best . My opinion is that if you want faster drying Pro Kote is not what you should choose it's one of the slowest curing , Threadmaster regular is exceptionally popular and cures relatively quickly , T

Amazing how a single response can sway some peoples opinions on something and thats unfortunate . While i respect everyones opinions don't forget there are more lovers of Winn Grips than the people who dislike them by far and i personally have not experienced any of what the person has said happened to him and his customers. That being said i also know it's limitations and don't treat it lik

I saw and read that CTS info a few weeks back , good info . Now the question that people want to know , are Torzites worth the extra $$$ and that is not a question that can really be answered because the attributes that Torzite has advantages in will be attractive to some and not so attractive to others.

Can never go wrong with Sic , i really like the slim ring versions . I have seen a lot of conflicting info between Sic and Torzite and have serious doubts to whether Torzite is a far superior ring material , it's certainly priced like it is but some info even by Fuji themselves seems to indicate the hardness level is NOT above that of Sic but it's polish and durability is .

No , there is no chart that shows guides from each manufacturer which allows you to compare the weights , the frames and ring materials need to be weighed as a whole and the only thing you will find is a few manufacturers that list their own specific offerings showing the weights of their own product . Some manufacturers don't list overall weights at all , they just expect anglers to take their

I just realized you mentioned line weights of 15-30 pounds, i assume thats braid if it's mono or flouro as a main line a change in ring size in a high framed stripper would be advised , i would go with a KL-H 25 if you will be building using the KR concept . I would probably opt for a 25 in your case anyway since the Saltist 4500 DOES does have a larger spool diameter than Shimano's of similar

You just added some very helpful info, the only thing this changes in regard to the rod is that it won't throw the low end nearly as effectively since it's rated up to 3 oz but it will definitely still work especially if your line choice isn't overly heavy. Now here is a basic rule of thumb , even though the rod is shown to have a 3/4 to 3 oz lure range the rod in reality will perform optimally

Here's what i would do , use your Saltist 4500 spinner on your Mexico trip , build the rod using a high frame KL-H 25 or 20 for the stripper since that will allow you to still get optimal performance even if you decide to go with a reel change after the trip . It sounds like you really want to make the Saltist 4500 to work so lets go with it , it will still perform very well as long as you go wi

Bob Ginther: "So theoretically speaking, why would a reel be too large for any given rod? Is there a point where the weight of the reel negatively affects casting performance of the rod? And if so, how much is too much (reel weight to rod length" It's 100% subjective , that being said, i have yet to run across an angler in the last 30 years that has purposely put a 22 ounc

Ben makes a good point and for long running salt water game fish it's something to keep in mind but the majority of fly fisherman aren't dealing with long drawn out battles where heat and friction become a factor , native brook trout can be tough but not that tough .

I know there are charts that show the hardness of different ceramic ring materials but none that i have seen have Nano Plasma listed . Very difficult to find any "Real" info on Nano Plasma rings . The biggest indicator to me about the Nano Plasma rings is the cost is only slightly higher than regular Nanolite , if it was a vastly superior ceramic that wouldn't be the case . Seems to m

You use your ultimate bling rod for night fishing where nobody could see it .......maybe it's one of those glow in the dark bling rods . A paper towel is not a bad comparison as far as the impact on sensitivity , you get the idea , that applies to the overwrap tape which is 1.1 mm thick , the solid full handles may be a completely different matter altogether. Purchasing a 44 inch overwrap in the color of your choice for $9.99 will not break the bank and will give you and your customers an idea to whether they like it or not . E

The answer is "Yes" it's still a graphite to graphite ferrule , as far as using U 40 ferrule lube i can't help you there since there has been absolutely no need for any type of lube on any of my two piece rod ferrules even after years of hard usage , still have a rock solid fit and come apart just as easy as the day i received them. Imo very very few anglers really build for ultimate performance , why do i say that , take a look in the photo section at 99% of the guide and ferrule wraps . It takes forever to find guide wraps that aren't grossly overdone meaning way way more thread is used than necessary to wrap a guide effectively to perform it's job and of course all that extra thread will also need to be covered with epo
