I made 2 rods for the same application with a Rainshadow walleye blank IMMWS62MXF. One I cut to 5'6" and the other I left 6'2". I wanted the most sensitive and lightest rod I could find and it works. I use 6 and 8 lb mono and a super light reel.

I've been repairing/building rods since the 50s and had to either improvise or figure things out myself until I joined this forum. I didn't know what I didn't know until I got on here, thanks guys.

Gotter done. I used the sanding drum on the drill press for most of the shaping and hand sanded for the finish. I bought a surform sander and tried a dremel with a sanding drum but the drill press drum was much better and didn't remove too much material. It only took me a week. If I had to do it over I'd cut the Power Hump reel seat off and use a straight grip but hindsight is 20-20. There i

I received the stuff, eva, to build my handle on a power hump rod I dredged up from the lake. I like the power hump reel seat so I kept it. I drilled the handle offset and cut the bevel on the piece of eva but don't know how to shape it. I chucked up a round sanding disk in my drill press and carved a bit but it didn't seem like the thing to do. i have to reduce the rear of the grip about 1/4

I used a rod with a power hump for about 10 years until it went in the lake last year, and like it too. I have the butt end of a broken power hump rod so I'll try and duplicate it.

Thanks Roger. I was thinking about drilling the foam at an angle but your suggestion sounds so much easier so that's what I'll do. I measured and will need a chunk of EVA about 1 1/2" in diameter.

Thanks Roger. I was going to use the reel seat but don't know how to ream the EVA to fit where the blank comes out of the reel seat. Do I have to get an undrilled piece of EVA and drill on an angle, or? The guides are good and I cleaned and lubed the Shimano reel and used it last week. I have a couple of Basspro Extreme rods that I use and they're pretty good.

Last Dec 29th I wrote a question about a handle for a rod I fished out of the lake. I was asked to post a picture but don't know how to add it to this post so it's in the photo section under my name. I want to put a split EVA grip with no forgrip. The rod is a basspro extreme 6'6" casting. I just got home and want to start on it. As you can see the blank comes out from the bottom of the

Personally I don't think the not made in USA is the main problem. Small businesses, if they want to succeed, cannot carry huge inventory to sit on shelves until a sale, so they order less.

I have a store bought rod with those guides and the 1st microwave is 22" from the center of the reel seat. The next few are 33", 42" and 49 5/8".

Okuma RTS 25 or 30. Under 7 oz 6:1 gear ratio 7+1 bearings. I've been using one for a couple of years with good results. I fish several times a week all year.

I made a spring and washer tensioner and it works fine. It must be locked with double nuts or the tension will change.

Broke my crappie rod last week and am looking for a blank to build another one. Requirements are 5'6" or 6' moderate action 2-4 lb line. Fairly sensitive and inexpensive. I usually use a 1/32oz jig head with a grub or tube or 1/32 or 1/16 oz Beetle spin. Thanks.

I put Minima guides on a store bought rod last year to increase the sensitivity and it worked great.

Do what Spencer said, put on your fishing clothes and try to cast. I've had to cut several store bought rods when they hit my clothes. 14" is way too long for me.

I was on my lake last week and it was in the mid 40s, which was too cold for me. I went to central FL this week and my neighbors blamed me for the cold here.

Mark, Since you're from the left coast you might remember rail plates. They are rubber coated flat plates that bolted to the rod above the fore grip. I used one for rock cod fishing on party boats with a Sabre rod, Penn 6/0 reel and 80 lb dacron line. We used sinkers up to 5 lbs and fished up to 600' deep. Rested on the rail they kept the rod from twisting and saved your body from lifting al

I have a Starrett dial pair I've been using for 20+ years. They're easy to see for me. Before that I used verniers.

The rod is 6 1/2' mh BassPro Extreme. I'm not with the rod but I think it has 4 double foot and 4 single foot guides. I'm going to leave the fore grip off. I won't see the rod for about 3 months so I'm not in a hurry.

Lynn has the right reel seat. It's round and the blank comes out of the bottom of the reel seat. Yes it has the weight system which I will use. I'm thinking about using a large piece of EVA and drilling it off center. The blank sort of cleaned up and the guides and wraps are serviceable. It won't look like a new rod but it'll catch fish.

I dredged up a rod in the lake and the cork is deteriorated. It's a basspro extreme casting rod with the funny reel seat. It looks like the Fuji ACS one. What I'm asking is how to put the EVA on with the rod blank coming out of the bottom of the reel seat instead of the center. The blank measures .475 at the butt. Thanks.

I had a problem logging into the website but here I am. I took Taylor's advice and bought the shooter CS722 blank. I have another shooter blank I made up spinning that I like. It's the CS721 for lighter line and river fishing. I'm waiting impatiently for it to arrive.

Yesterday I lost my favorite worm rod, a Basspro 85 million modulus 6' casting 8-17 lb line. I use 8 lb fluorocarbon line and a 1/8th oz worm weight and a zoom finesse worm. I need to build another rod very similar to that one. What blank/s would you recommend and what reel seat. I built a couple of Batson Immortal blanks that I like and an MHX but they were lighter spinning rods. Thanks for

A few years ago I went on a search for an ultra sensitive rod for river fishing with 6 or 8 lb line and 1/16th and 1/8 oz weights and finesse worms. I'm on my 6th rod and still looking. In the lake most of the rods are great but... I've been using ultra light, Mimima, guides, size A thread, smaller guides, less guides, better blanks etc that people on this site have steered me to. Everyone's

You might try a push pole mfg. Mudhole, stiffy, etc. They might sell you the section you need. I noticed all the recommended ones by Roger are fiber glass. The push poles aren't tapered.

I have cut the butt from a couple of store bought rods when they interfered with casting. Usually an inch is all it took to feel comfortable and not catch on my clothes.
