Does anyone use a Mudhole NEPS78MLF-MHX blank for worm fishing? Spinning with 6 or 8 lb line? Thanks.

Spencer, As I read Golden Trout originated in the South Fork of the Kern River which is where I used to fish once or twice a year. I haven't been there in 20 years though. I rode my dirt bike up the trails to Monache Meadows with a 4 piece flyrod bungeed to the handle bars and a fly vest under my riding jacket. I have fished the main Kern for rainbows as Phil said.

You could also buy a Mudhole CRB colored blank and put a ferrule on it. IS661ML or IS661L.

I'm like most of the people in that for 6 lb mono or less I use spinning tackle and heavier I use bait casting stuff. I used to live in So Cal and fished the Sierras every summer for golden trout and all I ever used is a fly rod. In the salt water I used conventional tackle. When I moved to the south east I took up bass fishing in a big way and use both spinning and bait casting almost every d

Thanks guys it had me worried. I fished with the rods this morning and they were their normal glossy black. Norm, I used some more of the guides you sent me last year. My buddy lays his rods on his boat with the tips toward the bow and he steps on them. I've never seen him with under 12 rods up top.

This morning, while fishing, I noticed my black wrappings were gray. It was raining and the rods were wet. I used Pro Wrap size A with Flex Coat. I went out to the car just now and they're black again. What's going on please?

Like Tom said "step bits". Harbor Freight has a set that's on sale often. For acrylic they'd be great.

I fish a couple of Immortal blanks and love them. I also carry a Leatherman multi tool with a diamond file that I use whenever a hook needs it.

In receiving my new Mudhole catalog I noticed there were no PacBay guides. I've been using their Minima guides for a few years and wondered whether the CRB SSR guides are the same thing. Did Mudhole merge with PacBay or?

This question, to me, would be best addressed to a So Cal site such as Allcoast.

Pac Bay minima. I don't know if they're lighter but they're really light and hold up to braid.

I've built a couple of rods on the Rainshadow IMMWS62MXF walleye blank. Minima guides, split grip, no fore grip, 6'3". The rod and reel weighs less than 10 oz. I'm using an Okuma Helios 30 reel. Extremely light and very sensitive.

Thanks Norm, I'll take you up on that. I emailed Abu Garcia and they said they didn't offer replacements but the sizes were 6,5 and the rest 4s. They seem smaller than that though. Starting from the butt I need 1,2,3,4 and 6. The first three are double footed. #2 is .122" and the running guides are .095" with inserts.

IMO a flyrod blank is too soft for the lure range you're wanting to use. I usually use the lightest line the blank is rated for for my applications. In looking at the catalog the S782-2-MHX seems right for your purpose.

The color looks to be bronze or gunsmoke, it's not black or silver if that makes a difference.

My fishing partner stepped on a Abu Garcia Veritas VRTCM73-6 rod that has micro guides. If anyone knows the make, model and sizes I need them to order several new ones. The first 3 are double foot and the first one measures ..225" without the insert, the second one is .123" with the insert but it's bent badly, the third is gone. The rest of them are single foot and measure .095" w

143. Re: Lathe
Fasten the right size crutch tip to a 3/8" dowel, chuck the dowel in your drill motor, mount the drill in a vise, put a wood rest on your bench and whittle away. The only trick is mounting the crutch tip to the dowel in the center.

Why would you go through all that @#$%& when you can slide on a reel seat, glue it and be done? Epoxied/super glued for guides? Just wrap them with thread. Flex Coat and Mudhole have videos how to build a rod, check them out.

About the lightest I found except for flyrod tip tops are Minima Rod Tops Model MVT.

I also wear glasses and wore the flip ups for many years until.... One of my fishing buddies had a pair of Cocoons that I tried on. I could see so much more with the Cocoons that I'm on my 4 th pair. I wear the amber lenses for mostly fresh water fishing.

I use a couple of Rainshadow immortal blanks for finesse bass fishing and love them. My rods are shorter than you like but are very sensitive and extra fast for 6-15 lb line.

I've been using the box method for more years than a lot of people have been alive with good results. I built a thread tension holder with a couple of pieces of wood @ right angles, a 1/4" bolt, 3 washers, a spring and 2 nuts. I made a dryer from a BBQ spit motor. Everyone calls me cheap but I'm just frugal.
