I like the SCIV 5 wt with a 6 wt line If you have room the 9 ft is good. Can handle heaver flys and is good for the wind. Also good for bass. If you want to have more fun with trout go a SCIV 3 - 2 wt Dan's blanks are popular here. Have not used one yet. Try a search of this board on both blanks

Suggestion: After you put your tape on I would think that it would make it easier to take the tape off if you cut the edges of the tape after the glue is on, maybe with a razor blade Have not done any yet but sounds like a good idea.

Shape the cork first, then dye and maybe seal it to keep the color from coming of

Only that it will be a little heavyer then cork. Some builders bore then out to make them a little lighter and then use spacers to glue onto the blank Tape it onto the blank and see if you like it, stick some guides on and test cast

Take your clear. Mix in a old rod bond large container. Thin. Add tint - any color from Tap Plastics - mix well. Add cork dust, make it to a thin syrup. I poor into a mold to the size I need. Or even mix in your mold. Let dry. Drill hole in it put it on the lath shape cut glue onto handle. Shape Wha-la Colored cork rings

I use Glass Coat. Mix in a cup add thinners to thin and give longer set time. Put one wet coat on from tip to but. No CP. 10 min another coat go have a beer. After clean up

On light fly rods I put the first guide after the tip 4". On heavy I put it 5". The stripper guide, hold the rod as if you are going to grab line and start to cast. Where your hand hits the blank1-2" from there put your first stripper.

Would be nice if they made a concept spinning guide. There spinning guides are a all purpose. They do have an " M " type guide but no colors

I like the Batson guides because the ring on the single foot fly guides is a little higher then the Aconite guides. Keeps the line off the blank a little better
