Joe, I agree with you on handle length and I like at least a size 17 on my personal rods. Those Batson popping rods are a fantastic choice. I second your suggestion x10. Phil, Joe is dead on with a "0" power for panfish here.

Yep Spencer, brain lapse there. The XGlass composites are sounding like the ticket. Especially after talking with someone who has built and fished the ones I've asked about. Thanks!

Phil, I live in Indiana and build quite a few 6.5' and 7' UL and Light power rods for the panfish around here. I don't necessarily think that 6.5' is too short, unless he likes to spider rig for crappie. The top end lure rating, IMHO, shouldn't be higher than 3/8ths oz, unless he is throwing something under a bobber or mini crankbaits. I say this with full disclosure that i love my ultralight rod

Thank you to you as well, Bob. Apparently you answered me as I was replying to Scott. I have yet to be disappointed by any of the MHX blanks. I just wasn't sure how they compared in action to that Lamiglas blank. I guess I was thinking of your S-Glass series and didn't realize you had a composite series as well. My bad!

Thanks Scott, I'll take a look at them. Kinda looking for an excuse to build on a RodGeeks blank with a wild paint scheme to display next year at our local fishing expo. Just not sure if it'll be one of the S-glass. Does the blank you bought have a more moderate, parabolic action?

I had built a Lamiglas CCB86-4M blank for myself a couple years back and ended up selling it to a longtime customer of mine after I let him fish it a couple times. I regret it every time I want to fish a small squarebill. I was thinking I would just buy another blank that was 1 power "stiffer" and it was discontinued and sold out before I could get my paws on one. Was wondering if anyo

128. Re: Get Bit Outdoors
Nigel, in complete agreement with you. I have done a fair amount of business over the last 2+ years with Kevin and his team at Getbit. Usually everything is perfect (well packaged, correct order, etc.) but if it isn't, a simple phone call will usually suffice. I did have 2 orders in a row that had a fractured blank (USPS did a number on the PVC shipping tube) all I did was talk to Jacob or Jason

Robin, if its the "burgundy" color, I've used it a few times, both with and without CP. If I remember right, it darkened up enough (no CP) that the black guide feet weren't super noticeable on a matte black blank. If you were using a lighter colored blank or chrome colored guides, it'll definitely stick out more. I agree about it being lighter than anticipated, but it does make a pretty

I've also just built one of the 6'2" immortal blanks(IMMW62ML-TC) but I built it into a spiral wrapped casting rod. I'm really impressed with this new series of blanks. I'm not going to "bash" St Croix, but don't think you could go wrong with the Immortal. And x2 on what Roger says, nice rod Garry

Doug, I get my carbon fiber grips from Bill Falconer. They are absolutely fabulous, hopefully he will pipe in. He does matching fighting butts also. Check out his work in the photo pages. They aren't necessarily cheap but his quality is first class.

Thanks, John. Haven't built on Spey blanks, I imagine that the intermediate modulus like IM-6 or IM-7 would work best in this capacity, right? He's wanting something with a moderately fast tip with some backbone.

Anyone out there have any experience building a float rod specifically for cat fishing on small to medium sized rivers? I am (for a customer)looking for a rod in the 11-12 foot range. Throwing less than 1oz total weight on 17lb braided line. Would a MH salmon/steelie rod fit the bill?

135. Indiana Rod Builders
I was wondering how many of the guys on here are in Indiana and if there have been any talks of a "meeting of the minds" locally. Just throwing it out there. I'm in central Indiana and would be willing to travel a few hours for such an event. If there is something in the works, please email me.

Thank you Tiago,
I looked at the "suggested" lure weight rating and was looking for that 1/8 oz on the lower end. I imagine that the Immortal/Revelation blanks will throw it ok. I've got a Immortal walleye blank on order right now and I'm excited to build on it. Appreciate your help.
And Bill, I was thinking that's a bunch of typing too!

Thank you, gentlemen. I will try emailing Batson. Was kinda hoping that one of the Batson guys might see the post and have an answer for all to see. I know both the RX7 and RX8 blanks were one of those blanks that the sum was much greater than the parts. Capt Neil, haven't built on the RX6 yet, but might have to now.

Can anyone tell me if there is a direct replacement for the 822.5 series of blanks? I've really come to favor this particular blank for dropshotting and light jigging for smallmouth.

If you're trying to save a little cash, I have built a couple driers out of microwave turntable motors. Just screw it on to a wooden, homemade "V" stand. I work part time at a local recycling yard and people are always throwing old microwaves away. The spin rate on the ones I've found varies from 3-8 rpms. Or you could just order one of the motors from Mudhole and build your own. Word o

Don, it's not really necessary to "cut" down a fly rod. There are lots of blanks in the 7'6" range. Lots are 4 piece but you can find blanks by American Tackle (matrix series), Batson (Rainshadow RX-6 and RX-7), Pac Bay and lots of others in 2 piece.

Could try the Batson S781-2, have built quite a few of these for crappie rods. The MHX blank in the same configuration will fit the bill. They're both relatively inexpensive. A second thought might be a fly blank in an intermediate modulus (if he likes a slower action). I'm building a 7'6" 0wt fly rod for a guy who likes them really whippy. But as was suggested by lots of guys on here, a 2-4

Chester and Michael thanks for your input. I know I'll have to play around with a couple sizes on the butt guide. This will be my first try at a spinning rod on a fly blank and I've seen a couple threads that say just to treat it like any other spinning rod. I'm always looking for a new bluegill/crappie rod for myself so I know I'll end up building one for me also. We have a bluegill "tourna

Great. Was kinda thinking of starting with a size 16 "k"." Looks like he's going to go with a 0wt CTS so I'll be giving Herb a call in the next few days. It was what he wanted and in a 2 piece. I'll post pics of the build when I get her all finished up

Michael, also wondered how you set up your guide train on the fly blank spinning rod? I'm not having much luck with my searches... did you use a concept guide placement or 27x? how big was your stripper guide like a 16 or so? Any help would be appreciated. If you like, you can put it on this post or just email me...

Michael, thanks for measuring your Amtak blank. I didn't find any data for the 1wt or the 2wt Finesse series but did find the 7'9" 3wt. The ERN is 2.7 and the AA is 62. If I can talk him into a 4 piece blank, it fits the bill for a 2wt moderate action (and it's relatively inexpensive especially when compared to the Sage blanks). I hadn't looked before because he wanted no bigger than a 2wt
