2253. Re: K series guides
Well folks, thanks for all your responses. I use the Forhan wrap on all single ft. guides if possible, and was trying to make sure I wasn't doing something wrong after hearing this other builder's opinion. I did some digging today and saw a post on another forum which states " using locking wraps on K series guides renders them ineffective at shedding loops" and goes on to say the Fuji

2254. K series guides
I was told by another builder that Fuji recommends locking wraps not be used on K-series guides. Is this true? Is there somewhere I can read this info for myself? Thanks, Lynn

2258. How short is too short?
I'm about to install a Minima spin seat. (downlocking, no foregrip) I would like to cut the threaded barrel short enough so that no threads show when the reel is installed. Is there any need for threads to extend beyond the rear of the hood?

Nice fish Chris. Kind of curious as to what kind of rod that was.

There is another product out there. I've had the same 1oz. bottle for 2 years. In the original bottle sitting upside down in a baby food jar with all my other stuff, still good as new. Lynn

Bob, I can't help you out, but I would like to see one of these caps. Where did you see it? Thanks, Lynn

2263. Re: Why?
I was given a custom rod by a friend in 1979, as it happened I knew the builder who said, "you can do this yourself". Then by a stroke of pure dumb luck as a printer I had a hand in producing the Dale Clemens catalog for several years.( I live about 25 miles from their former location). They graciously allowed me to purchase components at wholesale plus tax, even though I was just a hob

Scott, hang in there! There a lot of very helpful people on this board. No need to reply.

Many helpful replies here. One, not so much. I woud have thought Scott's use of the internet as part of his research. Apparently he should have started with a tree branch and a piece of string. ( don"t anybody tell him about graphite!)

Steve go to Mark Newcombe's video series on you tube, (Rod Components Australia) very concise no bull, step by step instructions. Build 5 or 6 rods then decide if you need a power wrapper. There are always wrappers up for sale by people who realized they did'nt need one. Happy addiction! Lynn

Reggie, I would lightly scuff the wraps with scotchbrite, mix some blue metallic marbling pigment in a new batch of finish (a very little goes a long way) and recoat the wraps. Look at various brands of pigment as all do not show up on this forum. You might be able to save it ,and if not you don't lose much. Lynn

2271. Re: seat arbors
I have always felt that using 2 short arbors creates a resonant chamber similar to a folk guitar or violin body between the ends of the seat. This is where the the rod is held and can only serve to amplify signals from the line. Then again I could be wrong.

2275. Casting Distance
When building a 7ft. spinning rod (Rx-7 ISB842 1/4-5/8oz. 8-14lb. line) what sort of casting distance should I feel is acceptable with 10 and 12lb.mono. I have guides attached with wire ties while testing. Mid priced guides starting with a #20 stripper, throwing a 1/4oz. bare jighead. I know what I think of it, just curious what some of you guys expect when you build. Thanks to all who reply. (Al

I thank all of you guys for your responses, and please don't take the threadjacker comment too seriously, sometimes my humor doesn't read quite as I think it! I usually build for myself and family however in this case i'm building for a fella I only see 2 weeks a year while on our yearly trip to Canada. He saw some of the rods I did recently and asked if I'd build one for him. Other than length an

Chuck, this is the highest rating for the blank and the guides and will probably not be used. I figure if it can cast that decently it will preform perfectly with lesser line weights. For myself, if it's 12lb. or higher it belongs on a casting rod. Thanks Lynn

Thanks Bill, and I agree with you about the casting guides. To me they are acting to control a situation that does not exist. Kinda like the boss's useless nephew. Lynn
