I sometimes find I get more satisfaction from doing a repair or rebuild than I might if I built a rod from new parts. Happy Holidays all, Lynn

Last week we were talking about using single foot minima guides as tip-tops because tubes were too heavy this week we're over sleeving blanks 3 inches from the tip! This is a weird place at times.

Love Garry's response, This may sound a bit harsh, but how do you fish a rod for 7 years and still not know what it's best suited for? I might have rebuilt this thing 3 times by now if I wasn't sure. Lynn

Happy Thanksgiving all. And especially to those component suppliers that help us fight the high cost of shipping on what are sometimes very small orders. Lynn

Adam, In your original post you asked "what should I use instead to give me both movement and...." this led me to assume that you intended to strip the top layer and start again. Which you could have done. Either way the result is a success. Lynn

Adam, It may not have turned out as pink as you would have liked, but it sure looks like you nailed the burnishing. Gotta love those blanks also. Lynn

Microwave guides were created to tame the loops created by spinning reels, and they work well. Casting reels create no such loops. I think the only advantage they offer is to the person who picks your parts off the shelf. That being said, I am going to use them (air waves) on my next build just as a conversation piece and cause they're cheap. Lynn

Adam, Have you had any luck with the tiger wrap you posted about on 11/12? Lynn

Or you can sand it all off. If you really like dirt. I do like the line idea though!

I typically do this with a fillet knife as you would remove the skin from a fish. Run the knife parallel to the blank while staying on top of the old glue. When you get all the foam off you can chip the glue off as best you can and then turn the blank and sand if you're careful not to go too deep. If you're simply replacing the foam you can let most of the old glue there. Lynn

I'm far from a tiger expert, but I do have some color printing background. I think it might pay you to try pink ( or some variation thereof) as your top layer if you've got pink and silver on the bottom. That should keep you on the pink side rather than black. Lynn

U-40 brush cleaner works very well for blank cleaning prior to wrapping. It doesn't hurt to wipe the guides off either. DNA can sometimes take the finish off a blank.

Thanks everyone, I think Anglers Resource provides any components I might ever need. I was most interested in any extra info that might be in their main catalog that I'd otherwise miss. Thank you for your responses. Lynn

If you're buying quality blanks and using the smallest guides within reason chances are the rod's gonna be more sensitive than you are. If you really want to maintain sensitivity make sure to keep the DNA off your hands as much as possible. Lynn

If the rod is to be used for bottom presentations such as T-rigs or jigs, do yourself a favor and balance it so the tip is neutral when you hold the rod as it will be fished. Don't worry about having weight hanging from it, when fishing the weight is on the bottom. You might want to consider not making this a permanent mod. A little weight at the right place can be your best friend. Many times I
