Put a coat of wrap finish over it and it will go away. End of story. Scott and DVT were not wrong!

Insert a piece of arrow shaft or some similar sort of tubing into the cork and drill the cork out with a suitable size butterfly bit. The tubing will be pushed through the cork while maintaining center, the same way those expensive pilot bits do. Lynn

I was looking at Pro-Wrap thread today and read this: " Pro-Wrap Colorfast thread is pre-treated to withstand the Sun's damaging U-V rays without adding any color preserver." That's fine. My question is which color preserver claims to provide U-V protection? If there is one, I'm unaware of it. Thanks, Lynn

Eliseu, If you would make a few sample wraps using old guides on a scrap blank trying some different thread , then use color preserver on some, and not on others before epoxy, it will be much easier for you to see the results for yourself. You can color guide feet, or color the blank before wrapping over also. These small experiments are well worth the required effort and expense. Lynn

Ncp thread is designed to retain it's spool color when epoxy is applied without the use of color preserver. ( Ncp= no color preserver.) Regular threads will darken or go transparent if epoxied over without using color preserver.

I recently started casting my own out of leftover wrap finish. when I'm done coating guides I mix in some pigment and pour it into a simple mold. This results in a hollow tube I can put on a mandrell (bolt) and slice off pieces as needed. Works pretty well.

Ed, your work speaks for itself. As for your customer, that's why they make Ugly Stix.

Bought a Loomis 6 ft. ultralight blank from Dale Clemens in the late 70's for $80.00 wholesale. Picked it up lightly a foot from the tip to move it out of the way on the front deck of the boat and it broke off in my hand I repaired it and it is still in use, but that was my last Loomis.

I once broke a Lew's speed stick casting rod, I didn't build it, but I did modify the reel seat and it was in the pre blank thru handle days. Snapped right in the middle of the seat while hooking a fish in heavy lilly pads, in Canada no less. Sat there with the reel in one hand and the front of the rod in the other. Never mind about the fish.

Urethane 1st, 1 coat let dry, Urethane again, if you didn't get full coverage the 1st time. After that you may coat the wraps with either one. I use epoxy. Lynn

Sounds like a good time for a little testing. With all due respect if color preserver provides UV protection I will also always use it. Mr. Ruwe, what brand do you use?

I was told by Lamiglas that it was not necessary to put anything on a sanded blank, but if I wanted I could apply carnuba wax. I was inquiring about graphite, not sure about glass. I wouldn't wax it before it was complete.

I know that the wraps I did with Gudebrod metallic that later faded were done without color preserver. The Clemmens catalog said it was not needed.

Alps mini guides were the closest thing I could find to these guides. I needed a single foot though, and I don't know if they come in double foot. Lynn
