Randy, Ross is correct. I have one on the dryer right now. A family friend broke one on a recent trip to Canada and I quick fixed it with thread and nail polish. When we got back I got the rod to properly repair it and he requested I replace them all. Using ALPS xbytlg models which are pretty close to the originals. I was able to start with a #20 stripper instead of the the original #25 and the f

Hello Jacob, as I understand it grooving doesn't seem to be much of a issue these days. I would suggest that you might want to put comfort ahead of sensitivity in a reel seat on a crankbait rod. Others may disagree! Good luck with your build. It won't be your last!

Randy, I didn't mean to imply you hadn't read up on finish methods, it's just that the search feature is often overlooked. Honestly though, I use the straw method both on the finish after mixing and also on the wraps once they are coated, and I have some finish issues myself from time to time, but never with bubbles. I would suggest doing a search on finish or epoxy application, all dates. That should answer any and all finish questions. Lynn

Are there additional concerns to consider when spiral wrapping a 2pc. casting rod, or do you treat it as if it were one pc. I guess my concern regards ferrule vs guide location as it is an 8ft. rod with only 1 guide on the butt section. The blank's rated up to 4oz. The butt guide will be a double ft. Minima 3 size 10. ( I also have a couple double ft. sz.6's here.) from there it goes down to Pac

American Tackle assured me that moving the stripper +/ - an inch or so will not effect performance. Maintain recommended spacing for next 2 and static test from there. Measure from spool lip to highest point of large ring. (the foot being the lowest.)

I have one rod blank (among many) I think is wonderful. I've rebuilt it 4 times so far over the years. I learn something each time, and each time I screw it up less. It's a trial and error thing. Once you do a few the first will look lame to you,( if you're not a prodigy), which I"m not. Oh, excuse me off topic. I've reached the point where I make my own winding checks from wrap finish and

You could paint the blank white where the wraps will be and wrap over it.

They say you learn something new every day. Today I learned that Custom Rod Handles is located about a thousand yards from my house and I've driven by it enough to recognize it in the street view photo. Thanks Roger

Just to be clear, I rotate by hand on the 180 for about the 1st hour or so then put on the dryer for 4 hours, so 5 hr.s total. As stated check the leftover finish in the cup. Lynn (I'm the guy who replied to Donald R. Campbell's original post)
