For what it's worth this post makes my top 100 list. I also have a list for the worst 100. Hee! Some of us appear in both!

Charlie Great Post! Trial and error results benefit all of us. Sure beats a lot of speculation before the fact. Thanks ( Now if this will hold up to urethane I'll be all in. )

I'm with Mark here. Acetone is the first ingredient in nail polish remover, and is also used as film cleaner in the printing industry where it is dispensed from spray cans as well as bottles. Works nicely to thin finish also. (even when they tell you not to)

Once opened you may want to consider recapping it tightly and storing it upside down in a baby food or some such jar, (in case of leakage) thus keeping the air trapped at the bottom of the bottle.

I use U-40 also. It does not seem to evaporate. It will take paint off brush handles if left to sit. Take paint off brushes before using if you want to avoid a messy surprise next time you go for a brush.

I also agree with Thomas 100%. But if you have the microwaves in hand and are going nuts to get started, go for it. If you don't mind waiting for an order to get to you. Get Minimas and save the Microwaves for a build where they might be of more benefit from a line taming aspect. Minimas are light and the rings are bigger in the same size guide.

Batson rx-7sw967 multi purpose. Utmost, Schneiders. Simple spiral, you'll love it. At least I would. I built a 967f for my son for much the same purpose, and it's a peach!

When you do the static test. Glue the tip on the blank run a string thru the tip braces to a stationary weight and pull the rod into an arc. Now put the reel on and run the line from the reel thru the temporarily located guides thru the tip ring to a sinker heavy enough to describe the path of the line along the blank. Eliminate any sharp angles and that tells you where your runners should be. Th

Thanks, as much as I'd like to take credit, I saw it done by one of the west coast builders. Not sure which. It was one of the first 10-15,000 posts I read.

It also helps to chamfer the grip slightly where it will first contact the glue, so the glue wants to go inside the grip instead of being pushed down the blank ahead of it.

Trace, the Rodmaker guides CD recommends using the lowest frame, smallest ring guide possible for the bumper guide, as all it does is keep the line from rubbing the blank. It is said to be best to use a double ft.

If it's only been a day or two since coated I'd just put another coat over it. If longer, scuff it lightly with scotchbrite, wipe the dust off with a damp coffee filter, let dry and recoat. Don't put too much finish on. ( Damp as in water, not coffee! )

This stuff is a 1" wide I'm gonna say mylar ribbon with gold heat transfer medium on the rear side. You had to cut a piece as long as needed and tape it to the blank tightly, and write on the front side with a heat embossing pen. The ribbon was then removed leaving the desired imprint on the blank. People more skilled than myself got good results using this stuff. I generally ended up sandin

If you have all your guides wrapped and for some reason you should have to rewrap one, this is where elastic thread saves the day. You can pinch the thread and the toe of the guide foot to the blank, make a few wraps and tie an overhand knot in the thread. The wraps can be distributed along the foot until the guide is in intimate contact with the blank. Wrap up to the elastic thread, push it towa
