He loves for a reason! great rods. I would strip the blank with citri-strip, lightly scothhbrite it, clean it off, and rewrap it. No finish coat required on these blanks.

You should be fine. Wrap the last 1/2 inch with thread and finish to prevent splitting of the blank in the future. Probably didn't hurt it in the first place.

Darren, there is a guy located in White Haven, PA that builds custom rods and he rolls his own blanks. They have a website, it's Lehigh Fishing Co. He might be able to help.

Real snakeskin absolutely requires CP, Rodskinz do not.

This post helped me through a tight spot by pointing out some things I already knew, but was too dense to call to mind! (Fitting a very pesky reel seat). Drywall tape is the only thing for some jobs.

Take a look at Elliot blanks from Get Rod Blanks. I can't say how they hold up at this point, (early days yet) but I sure like them from a price standpoint. You might be able to view them in person. Not sure of your proximity, but you're a lot closer than I am. Lynn

Doug, how much does price influence your blank selection? Can you love a $70 blank, or does it have to cost double that or more to get your attention?

I do as Phil does, with a 60w clear appliance bulb.

I use 4-6 lb. mono. Used fireline for awhile, but sometimes it cut through metallic thread and tended to get a little fuzzy after a while. Will try Tuffline.

I use the small pointed medical scissors. Sometimes provided in stitch removal kits. At least that's where I've gotten them.

Any issues when using braid pull-throughs with metallic thread?

I'm with David here, that's the last place I'd expect a blank would ever break.

After further review, KR GPS and Fuji static load tutorial are not in agreement on the number of runners. The tutorial advises 10 total guides, which is what looks good to me, so 10 it is. This puts my tip 3.5"or so, from the next guide. Will static test again, but it ain't gonna change much.

I'm in the scissors and early tie off loop insertion camp also. Only use blades when I absolutely have to.

KR calls for 8 guides and tip. I have 9 on it now. When I stress the rod I can hear it saying 10 wouldn't be too many. KL20H, KL10H, KL5.5M, choke/runners size 4 Pac Bay minis. Reduction and choke guides positioned as KR gps recommends. 10 seem like a lot but I can do it.

Building a 7 ft. spinner, ml 1/16-3/8 oz. lure 6-10lb. line. How far back from the tip would you place your next guide and not consider it to be too far back?

Call them, they'll likely make it right.

If I buy double edge blades I wanna use both edges, gotta invent a shield that allows use of both edges safely. Replaceable blade scalpels are the ticket. Single edge hair trimmer blades are also very good. As for double edge, Feather blades from Japan might be the sharpest of all.
