Adam, with all due respect I'm going to advise you as a Dutch uncle would. (I actually am a Dutch uncle and therefore qualified). There are plenty of sales ongoing from the sponsors and none better than mentioned in the post below. I would start from scratch on this project, as I think you would be turning what is probably already a perfectly good trout rod into something less than that. This pro

I've been using Pac Bay FX-04W as bumper guides on simple spirals.(also as runners) They are very small, low to the blank, and unobtrusive. They are very stout and have wide foot. I usually test cast these rods with 50# braid to a 17# floro leader and can hardly tell there is a knot. I start with a double foot 08 20-22 in. in front of the reel guide and go from there. The bumper goes halfway b

So for a guy who builds mostly bass rods where do these blanks fit the picture from a technique specificity standpoint?

I have had issues with 3's also. Sharp edges that could and did cut line. Be nice if they were done away with. It seems you get good and bad ones. My problem was with F-guides , never had SV's.

1837. Re: relative weight
I look at it this way. I build them to be as efficient as I know how. After that it is what it is. That being said, I'm not dealing with customers who might want all types of gee-gaws that add nothing to functionality. When someone does request such items I explain to them very clearly, " I'll put those things on for you, but you're just adding weight"

I thinks it works out for the best as it is now in the long run. The search thing could be better. Anyway, thanks for helping the guy out.

In my humble opinion, I would extend them from the butt rearward were I to attempt this at all. I think they are better left as is and remembered as they were. Fuji very quickly moved on from the ferrule in front of the reel system. ( lighter, stronger, faster ) was the motto back in the Lew Childre days, and they soon discovered that the blank thru to the butt was a much better way to build rods

1844. Re: thread finish
Is there a high traffic area above your finishing area? If so those above could be causing loose dirt to fall on your work.

You might just have gained a few new customers. This kind of thinking encourages new builders. ( us old coots like it to)

1847. Re: Center of Gravity
David the weight I suggested hanging on the blank was intended to represent the weight of the guide train without actually taping guides on, this may or may not be a fair representation of guide train weight. Aside from that , luv you bro! You get it. This place needs a little poke on the butt at times.

1849. Re: Center of Gravity
Yeah, if it's tip heavy you can always add weight to the butt! ( Here we go!) Really though Mike, You might attach the reel to the blank temp. at different points and judge what feel best to you. Keep in mind the weight of the guides, and hang something of similar weigh from the blank while doing this.

Fix just what needs fixing and no more. Fish it! That's what guy that built it meant for it.

Wow, nobody hurt my feelings, I'm a little on the sensitive side.

It all boils down to: can you build a rod that lets me feel what my bait is doing better than the last one I was using? So I guess you have to build however many different rods with all the best components that are all identical in specs, let him try them all and decide which he likes best. He will then have the most sensitive rod there is. Subjective . People will swear by a rod that I absolute

David Baylor , the truth is my reaction to the sensitivity issue above wasn't fit to type. As usual I agree with you. Almost makes you think some don't quite understand the situation or perhaps wish more discourse on the subject. David Miller, where did you locate this info?

Thanks for the info Donald. The only rods I'd seen up until now with those guides were in the Steez lineup. Forgot they were called AGS

I believe they are most exclusive. I can't verify this however. By the way the rods that sport these guides start at around $529.00
