Sorry off topic but, Glenn did you have any luck with issues you had getting Permagloss to dry?

If tip ring size has to match runner ring size I'm afraid I've built an awful lot of rods incorrectly.

Here here Tom. I agree with that. Use Citri-Strip to remove old finish from blank.

I have seen Berkley lightning rods from the factory with tips just like this. Early eighties.

Exactly how old are we talking here? When were these rods originally sold? Where can I view these rods?

In regard to this post, Jack's "ethyl as a solvent" post just below and countless others, (now this might sound stupid, and if it does it wouldn't be the first time I've done that). What about using grain alcohol produced for human consumption? This would eliminate the additives thought to cause issues associated with DNA. And no, I did not sample some before typing thith! Hic

If it ain't broke... By the way I got the acetone thing from a couple of. finish suppliers. Few things evaporate faster. (tip #12)

As far as I know, you have to thin epoxy, acetone is the best thing to use. Anthony, you threw yourself under the bus! I wouldn't do you like that Bro!

When a largemouth picks up your bait it's first instinct is to take it around something, be it a stump, a clump of weeds, your anchor rope. You have to get them moving in your direction hopefully, before this happens, hence the winch type reel. Smallies just go for deeper water and pull, pull, pull, etc. more suited to spinning tackle. The reel without the differential is the most efficient way t

This is the second time I've heard of this practice in recent weeks. I have never wiped wraps with anything prior to finishing, and I don't know why anyone would. I may dab with masking tape to remove dust, but that's it.

Excellent description David. What's a fly rod? Mark, I feel casting reel and ultra light, shouldn't be used in the same sentence, but I know quite a few guys build them. I've always relegated light lures to spinning tackle.

Personally I'd stay away from old guides because of all the advancements since. I know nothing about foulproof guides. I know Harnell blanks are often mentioned on the west coast forum. (saltwater)

I have Catalogs with Fuji guides from 1989, 93, and 99. I could look up a few things for you to get you in the ballpark. I'll do some checking.

I don't care for that particular finish. Tested it on a couple of wraps, gave it away.

Mark, I'm not sure I care much for my new title! Roger the heat gun is a great method, one of these days I'll get one. Phil, back in the Dale Clemens Crystal Coat days we were taught to use it as a blank finish by dipping fingers in mixed finish and rubbing it on the blank. You wanna see amine blush in damp conditions! Up and down the whole blank. It did always clear up though. Guess that's why

Roger, by the time you get the fan, it's all over with. When I was but a wee lad I played the trombone, it came equipped with a spit valve. I've never found it useful on a straw.

I have a 7ft. heavy bass rod set up as Tom says, I used a size 4 wide ft. Pac Bay micro guide as a bumper guide, (a Fuji belly guide would be even better) and it casts 50lb. braid with a 17lb. floro leader (Alberto knot) like a dream.

I have noticed no ill effects from doing this. It takes but a very few seconds to release any bubbles from my mixed finish and the same should I see any on a coated wrap. I'm not saying it's not possible, just that I've not had it happen. While moisture can form inside the straw, it doesn't happen instantly. Yours truly, Heavy breather.
