I've sent an email with some links to specific items, but I hadn't thought of the cart idea. It's just one (maybe two), and we usually stick to around $25 or so, so mainly I was looking for small, inexpensive stuff that I might not think of on my own. Appreciate all the good ideas so far.

Dang. Hit "post" accidentally. I told them about thread (dental) picks. I could always ask for thread, too; can't have too much of that. Just thought I'd see what y'all suggest. Thanks.

Having drawn names with extended family for Christmas presents, I'm now called upon for some inexpensive gift ideas for me. Need to give 'me a list. Since I'm so new to this, I thought I'd ask you seasoned old pros for some ideas. What small stuff should I keep on hand? I t

Gosh. That looks like a great setup. Somebody's gonna get some good use out of that!

A lot of those lathes like the one you mention are copies if the Jet, which is really (I think) a copy of the Vicmarc. Many of them are made in the same factories. What sets them apart is the brand's expectations for quality control and finish. Jet seems to have higher standards than some of the others, which is one reason their lathes cost more. The other is the components that they use, specifi

Right, but I think I get what he means. It does have the "self-centering chuck" or whatever they call it. Just push it up against but not into it, and let friction do the rest? Picked up some hair bands and cup hooks on the way home. Will give 'em all a try.

Here's a link to my gallery, showing the pics of the rod so far. All that's left to do is the finish, which hopefully i'll get started on tomorrow evening. Will be using Threadmaster. Any tips before i start? I'll add more pics as i get the finish done. I wouldn't even attempted this without the help i've found on this board and from Kevin Knox's YouTube vids. Thanks y'all! kevin

I got all the guides put on my first rod build yesterday and got them all aligned, so now i'm down to applying the finish. I doubt i'll get to that this evening but hopefully soon. I'll post up some pics of how the guide wraps turned out before i finish it and then some of the completed project. Here are my questions - first, do you start with the guides nearest the tip and work your way down

Here's a pic of my first attempt so far - not near perfect, but i can live with that. When i first started tying flies, i never kept the ones that didn't turn out like i wanted, so i had nothing to go back to and compare to see my progress. I wish now i had, and i don't want to make the same mistake here, so here it is. Thanks for looking and for y'all's help so far. kevin

It will fall off by itself, so i guess that counts as sloppy loose? If i need to shim it up, what do i use? Masking tape?

How tight a fit does one need between the tenon of the rear cork grip and ID of an eva foam buttcap? Thanks, kevin

Hey Y'all, Just signed up a few days ago, brand new to rod building. In fact, i'm working on my first rod, and i think things are going pretty well. It's a 6'6" solid fiberglass casting rod that will be used for live bait for bull reds. I'm using cork grips with a long fore grip, and i got those reamed out (that took a while by hand) and glued on along with the reel seat (Fuji). I've got
