We've been offered premade carbon grips for some time now. We don't actively advertise them as we stay pretty busy with building them for the guys who have inquired about

I'm like Mike and have spent plenty a Saturday on the back of a boat in a bigger tournament and saw the need to really streamline what I carry. I think you already have the right mindset and after your years in the front of the boat, you've seen plenty of what your coanglers have been through (and you have dealt with in your boat). Personally I would go with 5 rods as that seems to be

With a VERY strong magnet that makes direct contact to the guide, you may have some success (mainly with micros because of the light weight), but unfortunately it probably isn't going to work. The magnetic signature of the alloy used is very slight.

94. Re: Kigan Guides
Harry - we are Kigan's special partner here in the US. We work directly with dealers, distributors, and OEMs to expand and promote the products.
Swampland Tackle and Merrick Tackle both can assist your needs.
The Hydranew Fishing storefront will be back up shortly. Thanks for your interest! I have no doubt you will be as happy with them as every other builder using them!

John and I just wanted to follow up with a quick thank you to everyone who stopped by to visit us in the Hydra Fishing booth. To be a small start up in an industry dominated by longstanding giants is humbling to say the least. It was great to see all the interest and excitement from everyone who stopped by.
I may have the unique persepctive of being able to say I've been on both sides - as an

Since we are based in Aiken, SC - which is basically in the middle of both states, Hydra Fishing, LLC would be more than happy to get something going.
Email us at john@hydrafishing.com if you'd be interested in a one day type gathering. Lot to think about with it and look into what could be inv

MIlt - just hang tight... I know several redfish anglers who have been experimenting with the rig. Have been since it hit the bass scene. Just imagine... one cast and limited out for the day!
An SWA T1 will be outfitted for display right next door to Swampland featuring some very special guides...

101. Re: micro tip tops
Steve -
Kigan's braced micro tops are available in 4 ring. The guide design itself is very streamlined helping create a smaller profile. They are very durable as well. I believe this is one of the smallest braced tops you're going to find.
Swampland has them in stock.

Will they be actual chrome or a titanium?
Stainless steel with chrome treatment. Ti is not currently available.
Swampland has an outstanding selection of Kigan guides (standard and micro) in stock and a nice box of pretty blue and silver guides are en route to the Swamp. They will also have the matching tips with a 4 ring and tubes from 4.5 to 7.

The Swampland T1 blank is outstanding. We built one for testing with a full 12" EVA grip, size 17 seat (which fit perfect) and used the following Kigan guide train:
CDCGWC7 (DF7)
CHDCGWC6
CHDCGWC5
CHDCGWC4 (7 of them)
MZCTWC4-2.8 top
This was a great test rod for trying out Kigan's heavy duty guides - available in micro sizes and in stock by the end of February.

Great question. Guide rings like Kigan's Coalite, SiC, and Zirconia are all great for mono, flouro, and braid. You'll see lots of different preferences. Some builders will favor value while others look for every possible edge.
Coalite offers great performance for fresh and saltwater, excellent value, and is our most popular ring offering. SWAMPLAND Tackle currently has a full line up

On our house brand finished rods we will often use the Hydra Ng P944 and P945. This builds out at 7'10" and casts a mile. These blanks aren't the cheapest available, but they offer 100% carbon construction and made in the USA.
We just built up a set using Kigan SCGWC25, SCGWC16, SCGWC8 and then a CCGWC6 and 5 CCGWC4s and a MZCTWC4 top. These were going to be paired up with Penn B

We made this video a little while back after answering the same question at the ORBS gathering. It's not a high end production, but hopefully helps out.
One thing to note, I usually use a wider brush on wider wraps. I just happened to grab the brush I use on micros when this was filmed. This also went a little slower than normal, but Tom's estimate of about 30 seconds is spot on

I will get you an answer.
EDIT - Yes. Since the Ion Gold is applied over stainless frames, it will hold up in constant saltwater environment. As with any stainless frame, it's still a good idea to wash them down with fresh water after use.

Clyde/Col - I certainly will! I have a set of inshore rods I use that have been in salt with no corrosion issues and I'm not good about washing them off after use. If you really want Ti type performance but without the cost, we offer a "CC" finish that has a coating on the guides offering Ti type corrosion resistance. It's a white chrome color. We should have a very good stock of these

Thanks guys -
I'd suggest either of these Hydras:
MB843-UW (available in February)
SJ842-NG
The UW series blank has a faster tip.

Yes. Kigan guides use stainless steel for all guide frames. Titanium framed guides will be available soon as well.
Regarding it being a "good grade" - we do not disclose the type of stainless. A specific type of steel has to be used to accomodate the press method used to manufacture the guides. We have zero reports of guides frame failures on our 3D guides (which is all we have avail

Take a look at the natural flex of the blank. Where the majority of the flex occurs, you're going to end up with guides a little closer together. I'd start with the first guides about 2.5" from the tip and then work back about every 3" just to start - with a focus on that section that really bends.
As for the all micro, that's really preference. I'd challenge you to buck t

Don't forget that a 6'6" rod with a 4" handle has the same working length as a 7' rod with a 10" handle.
Point here is to not only consider the handle but to look at the working length of the rod. Changing the working length might find him being more/less successful. It might even have a bigger to usability impact than handle length.

You most likely want a blank 6' - 6'9" with 6'6" - 6'9" being the most common.
Build for the weight of the lure - in your case 1/4 - 5/8oz - and look for good backbone and a soft tip.
Your guess of a medium/fast is pretty on the mark.
The Hydra NG SJ3 and SJ2 powers both work well once trimmed to length.
