Good info Mark. thx Here's a question. How easy is it to tie while floating down a shallow rocky river with one eye on the boulders and ledges and 1 foot on the trolling motor? Lol. I use the crazy Alberto and AbraizX leader, really dont have failure issues, and can tie it in the above situations quite easily. Don't get me wrong I'm not saying it's a better knot, cause everything ive seen th

Awesome. Thx guys. Will experiment with it for sure!! I'm using crazy Alberto and I really dont have anything bad to say about it but I'm always up for improvements where I can.

Norm I have heard great things about the FG knot. I.see that it's a long knot when completed. I usually run a pretty long leader, long enough where my leader knot will be on the spinning reel spool. Is the FG too long and would it cause issues during a cast being on the spool? What do ya think? It's a great knot but I steered away cause of the length.

El, i.think it really comes down to the ccs numbers is really all I meant. Like ya said in your post it's like saying it's warm or it's cold. I say this, sounds like you are correct when it comes to NFC tho. Looks like as the rule their SJ blanks are faster and more powerful than the MB equivalent. Now the question is ...are some of those blanks actually what most would consider a "s

EL, That's not always the case. SJ aren't always faster actioned.. It's varies by manufacturer. i know lamiglas made some SJ blanks that flexed deeper into the blank than a typical MB taper. I heard some loomis SJ and MB blanks were actually the same blanks just re categorized but I never compared apples to apples so IDK for sure

IDK..for me, river fishing, I wouldn't fish braid without a leader. Kills the presentation in alot of situations. There are a couple presentations where i will go straight braid but its frw and far between..I'll use a 8-10ft leader for spinning with crazy Alberto knot. Not much relying with the long leaders but still gives ya the braid feel

yeah not a coincidence at all. I was glad to see the addition of the SC3 blanks. Got to handle a few factory victory rods yesterday. they didnt have any 73MLXF but got to shake the 73MXF and the 71MF. Really liked the action on the MXf, as ya might expect its like an extended 68MXF.

Kendal. St Croix/rodgeeks did just add the bass 3 line and have a 710MLXF and a shorter version 73MLXF that could be extended...of course they still have the SCV 76MLXF offered. when i was reseaeching a dedicated smallie hairjig rod, i was considering some of these longer 7'6"ML blanks with fast to XF tips. check out some of the hotshot blanks from NFC and MHX SJ9000

mhx SJ720 would be another budget minded blank id put on the list. also the SJ781 with few inches trimmed from the butt SCVs66MLF if not budget minded. i think rodgeeks is now calling this the C566MLF. few inches off the butt as well.

IIRC 1/2 dia of spool O.D. to size the stripper guide in NGC. usually worked out to a 25Y for 2000,2500,3000 sized reels.

thx Norm. didnt see your reply last night. good to know on the AT winding checks. i was looking at the specs online for them and thought they may be close... ill try them out with the 24mm foam arbors. Yeah the g2 butt cap is a nice finish.

thx! yeah i have some 17 and 18 arbors. the 18 is still alittle small for the top where it tapers down in diameter. Ill have to order some larger sizes.

i threw a couple of the 2" OEM CARBON grips on my last order since they were clearance. at 5 bucks i figured couldnt go wrong. i suspected they came with no arbor pre installed and was correct. I can use some leftover scraps of eva i have BUT.... Are you guys just using the CFX foam arbors or similar? JFYI the AT G2 butt caps for their carbon fiber grips fit the OEM planned

i like the Stanley surforms too. Ill also use belt sander belts with rip of plywood slid inside. It makes a handy sanding block for many things including shaping. Round the ends for a nice snug fit.
