Brody my friend has only one functioning arm. He puts his rods in a stainless ring attached to his belt so he needs a fairly substantial grip. For years we have been making them out of cedar. The one thing about cedar is when it is turned down and reamed out it is not much heavier than cork so the rod stays balanced. Although soft it holds up very well. We finish all of them with Flex Coat

John, I have built close to twenty of the Rod Geeks crankbait S glass rods. Both MM and MH they are truly outstanding blanks. Zero defects, and one of the only rods I have sold that have brought back unsolicited praise from owners. Two tournament fisherman using the MH have stated that in a complete season the performance of that Rod is second to none. Neither lost a fish once hooked.

Great analogy Tom. I just never gave it a thought. I myself have never experienced a problem but didn't want to give my guy bad info. Thanks for all the replies

Does fishing in single digit temps have any adverse effect on graphite rods. Not sure if I would be out in that but I had a customer ask me and I wasn't real sure what to tell him. Thanks Tom

Norm you may have stumbled on something. Have the guys ship their rods to you and for a nominal fee you can have Jackie line them up and return........lol Tony Boschi, as with others I bought the laser and found it not as accurate and the eyeball method. Tom

I was going to use the 17mm and in the down lock version. He was hoping to be able to touch the blank ahead of the reel seat, so that short front thread cover it should be the deal. If i get it done by ICRBE I could bring it along. I am excited to see a 8ft 6in rod that weighs only 1.5 oz. Tom

Norm, I see that the sleeve is shorter to accommodate the Fuji/Winn cover sleeve, so I'll trim it. Thanks. This is going on the Phenix Iron Feather Rod we have been discussing. I am reversing the grip direction of the factory version and with the Winn grips this should be one sweet Rod. Do you use 16 or 17 mm VSS seats? Tom

For some reason a lot of the captains here on the Chesapeake like 5"6" rods. I agree that the 6ft is probably a good choice but if you wanted to cut it I would only take a couple of inches off the butt.

X 2 on Roger's idea on the Plano box. Holds hundreds of guides and it is super easy to see what you have and when to re-order. I use a separate box for each style guide, casting, spinning, fly, etc And you can order extra dividers to load it up

I hope Bass Pro makes some improvements in Cabelas' fishing department. My wife and I a few years ago drove from Maryland up into Pa to visit the new Cabelas store there. Her comment to me was , I think you have more rods on your boat than there are in the store. Not a fishing friendly supplier, at least here anyway.

For the past two years I have used the K Sun Pearl 270 from Larry Tobin at Custom Labeling on the left. It is very easy to use and makes beautiful decals. With the hundreds of decals that i have made it has paid for itself over and over again.

A customer brought me a vintage Bamboo Bay rod to semi-restore. I have been looking for the right butt cap for this but so far haven't found it. The rubber cap is only about an inch long and slips over the wooden ring at the butt. If anyone knows where I can find such a cap I would greatly appreciate any input. Tom

I have only done three rods with the Winn tape and that was last year. It sounds like yours is a much heavier version of the rods than I did but in a years use the Winn tape is holding up very well. if I might offer one suggestion Winn doesn't give you much tape to tie down the tapered end so you may want to put some extra wrap in that area. Also the Winn tape seems to work on straight grips t
